Satellite question

Our villa came with a satellite dish and a decoder. We believe this is Nilesat (mostly of UAE TV channels, "The One"). Because there aren't many English-speaking channels, we want to upgrade.

My question is, will this decoder work with other satellites (i.e. Orbit, Showtime, Qtel's own?)?

We inquired about subscribing Showtime; when we told the salesperson that we already have a decoder, he showed us that all we need to do is to get somekind of credit card looking "thing". The decoder has a slot for it. We turned it down because the salesperson couldn't guarantee that it'll work and there was no refund policy.

Does anyone know what that card is whether it'll work?

If your decoder is a UEC or Coship, it would take a SMART CARD, which is the sim card lookalike. If you wish to subscribe to Showtime, the best place to hit is Starlink!

Their service team is one of the best, and if you subscribe to any showtime packages, they will come and even change the decoder you have if need be, completely free of charge!!!!

If you wish to check out their new packages and offers, please call them on 428 3888, and the customer care center will be more than glad to answer any and every question you have!

The card should work if the decoder is on the nilesat network,

not sure about Orbit, but you will be able to get Showtime and ART channels, best bet is to get a showtime card, best hurry if you want to catch the Superbowl.

To be honest most of the decoders that come with showtime are made by Coship, it maybe an old decoder and it maybe better to get a new decoder with the showtime package, I don't think it costs much more. Best service I have had is at the Almufftah centre oppsoite the Royal Plazza, it's around the back of the building.
