Am moving out next month (from UK) and want to ship out personal effects by ship or air. Can anyone recommend a company that will clear goods and deliver to door who are reliable. What are costs like?
Hi..My family and i are relocating to Qatar in the next couple of months. We are wanting to ship our furniture and belonings with us to Doha. Any advice on which company to use or wether this is a good idea. We have two children and need a lot of the stuff we have here? Also is Doha a nice place to live, I am a bit nervous, although I am of Lebanese background, Ive lived all my life in Australia(thought I have travelled to many Asian and middle eastern counrties) but never lived overseas. Any advice would be helpful.
But at a cost. We used Pickford in England. They have a sister co. in Q called Allied Pickfords. They are not the cheapest, however britiannia gave a higher quote. Cost us 3890+ sterling for full container( I think 40 cubic ft), not including insurance. We took life and limb in hand and decided not to bother with insurance ...boy were we glad when that ship docked.
However even if your removal co. stops at Doha there is a trading co. that deals with shipments from there to your door and not too expensive. (Remember labour is cheap over here). Customs is done manually over here so pack well, they can be heavy handed. Get over here and buy a copy of Marhaba or Living in Qatar, they give good advise on moving here. It is Ramadan at the moment so customs is on half shifts, plus asian olympic games will take priority up to xmas so be prepared for delays whether you go air or sea. Our shipment left England on 25 sept. We are having it delivered to our door (finally) on wed 4 Oct. Whooppeeeeee. Apparently that is good going.
Incidentally Our air quote was nearer 5000. sterling. We only got one quote so dont know if that was good or bad.
If you go for Pickfords and live near Milton Keynes ask for Valerie at that branch. She was an absolute gem.

Thats not true. I had my stuff cleared by the shipping company and delivered to my door. It took about a month. I will look up the company name.
Act your age not your shoe size
AFAIK nobody does door delivery in Doha.
