Shipping/moving items BACK to UK
My husband and I are leaving Doha in April. We have few household items (no furniture) that we would like to take back with us to UK (originated in UK). Can anyone recommend a reliable shipping company, approx cost/per weight/boxes, how long the process takes, tax implications, questions to ask shipping company? Many thanks.
You will need to have receipts showing when you bought the goods. They will need to be shown to HM Customs (if you are clearing it yourself) or the clearing agent will need them to clear the goods. I am not sure if you have had to own it 6 months or one year. That should be available on the HM Customs web-site.
hi there
does anyone know if you have to pay tax on shipping furniture and 'white goods' (i.e. fridge) to the UK. I'm thinking of buying the stuff here as its so much cheaper (my company will pay for me to ship it all - in 1 years time when I go).
Thanks
If you don't have a lot to ship back, it is worth considering sending it "unaccompanied baggage". I don't remember the exact cost but it was a fraction of the cost of sending it as freight.
You can clear it yourself very easily at the UK end but you should have the packing list and all your receipts handy.
We have followed this course twice and the second time the baggage was on the same flight as we were. You don't have to travel on the same airline either,
Time estimation - app. 8 weeks
Runway moving and shipping - can't remember their number - i might have a business card at home though.
I don't have a clue about the cost - how many boxes do you need shipped and what is the weight?
Regarding tax etc. - that depends on the type of goods you ship - clothes etc. are free - same with kitchen stuff.
Tellys and other hardware might be taxed.
