Study In Qatar or Oman?

Mister Green
By Mister Green

Greetings!

I am a single guy from Saudi Arabia, plan to study Bachelor degree in New Zealand, but if things doesn't go too well from what it seems so far with New Zealand Immigration, I am considering either Qatar or Oman as Plan B to study at.

Between Qatar University and Sultan Qaboos Uniersity, which is better to study at?

Plan to study Environmental Science at Qatar University or either Environmental Biology or Marine Science & Fisheries at Sultan Qaboos University.

Local politics means favouritism of local students.

You mean eye contact with qatari's women?I know that rule very well since I've lived in KSA my whole life, so it's not a problemAnyways, my New Zealand Student Visa is sorted, I should have it in a couple of weeks from now, so I am going to Wellington in NZ.Thanks everyone for your contribution!

TAP OUT?Get a grip and avoid eye contact? eh? where?Still trying to sort out the New Zealand Student Visa, seems New Zealand is the best option for me to study at.Not very keen into USA and the UK I can't get my government scholarship there anymore due to the high number of Saudi students there, also not very keen into the UK either.

Thanks .sun26872 for your reply, but what do you mean by "your best interest maybe shadowed by local politics"?Anyways, between those who know New Zealand, specifically Wellington, and Doha, which is more expensive to live at (Accommodation, food and drink, leisure). As I read here, cheapest 1 bedroom accommodation in Doha costs nowaday way above 5000 QR, where in Wellington the average price/month for homestay is 3000QR including 2 meals. It seems to me though, both Doha and Wellington has similar prices, difference is that there isn't homestay in Doha due to the Gulf traditions and cultures of not making strangers living in the same house building.

In my opinion, Qatar University is definitely better than Oman, but please find out about the college. Secondly, sometimes your best interest maybe shadowed by local politics. So be very careful. Having more expensive infrastructure doesn't mean better education. Secondly, having a few white professors doesn't mean being internationalised.  Especially if the western community employed by these universities are always cribbing (in muffled voices )about the lack of optimum standards & corruption. Oman may have these problem, but they are on smaller scale.

Still trying to working out my New Zealand Student Visa, as they want me to pay them 17100 NZD, approx 48000 QAR upfront + I need to buy roundtrip tickes and find accommodation, easily need to pay an equivalent to 60k QAR upfront in order to study in New Zealand, which is a lot.I am planning to study Environmental Science so wouldn't care about this ABET, but thanks for pointing that out.Main problem arise in Doha is accommodation, my only choice is the student accommodation for now, anyone have any idea about cheap accommodation that is near Qatar University?Last question: as a single male, what do I expect to do in my free time in Doha? And I hope to find the love of my life in Doha if I make it to there.

and as m.3000 pointed that it is recently awarded ABET Accreditation for Engineering courses. It had more international exposure and the faculty staff are really good.

Doha is not boring at all.  It all depends upon your skill to socailize. Further, it more liberal than Riyadh.

Good Luck for studies and for finding your future wife ;)

Thanks everyone for your replys,Yes I am from Riyadh, plan to go to Qatar by car and  back to Riyadh in weekends/vacations/holidays.Oman seems out of question, Sultan Qaboos University seems more aqin to the Government Sponsored Universities in Saudi Arabia, where Qatar is more International.I did consider Abu Dhabi and Dubai, but as I plan to get a scholarship from my government there after studying for 1 year at University(Basic rule by the government here), and they only listed few Universities to choose from in order for me to get a Scholarship, and only Qatar University has the college/department that I want to study at.I am going to bet, Riyadh is far more boring and strict than Doha, we even have the paraonoid religious police, someone please enlighten me about Doha compared to Riyadh and if my bet is right.

Dear he is asking about education not about who is boring

or which is funny. Good students will go to the target, and if he is looking for

fun, so he is not a student. Im saying Qatar University because i know

what im saying not just random
