Hey Britexpat and UkEngQatar,

to make it simpler for you, Tata Sky is exactly the same thing as SKY UK. They have the same hardware and software on their decoders as SKY, however they show Indian channels and you are guaranteed to not miss any sports event.

I think everybody should unsubscribe Pehla and start using TATA sky or something else.Pehla is cheating subscribers.Earlier in the basic plan they use to give star one but they recently excluded it.Instead they promise to include 2 other chennels aaJ TV and ESPN classic but both chennel are not coming.I have mailed Pehla in this regard but no answer from their side. When I called local dealer He answered S-one is removed from basic plan but he does not know when the 2 new channel will be added. This is just monopoly.

It needs to be used for a day or two in india becoz thats the only way it can be activated. The techs will come and install everything including the small dish and conect to the TV,U need to call the customer service for activation (usually they do it).then make advance pament for as many months as u want and whichever packages, once that is active, disconnect the settop box and bring it in ur luggage. Here u need a much larger dish to get the signals. Its illegal to take out of india, just dont try to call customer care from here u will get disconnected..abe

it is better to bring it here after testing it, there is nothing like u have to switch iton for 2 or 3 days, just make sure it is working then bring it here and enjoy.

do we need to cover the reciever in black plastic bag or any carbon paper or any such material?

Is it necessary to use the TATA SKY in India for 2-3 days and then bring it here.In one of the post above i read so.

[After buying can I bring it here without setting up/using it in India, box pack or do i need to instal in India 1st and then bring.]

Thanks,

If caught at Doha Airport, your decoder will be confesticated.

You can do it discreetly but again the day the authorities get strict, you will have to look for other alternatives...

It is mainly for the Indian Diaspora so the majority of channels are in Indian languages Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Gujrati, Punjabi etc..besides English language channels like Star World, BBC, CNN, Discovery, etc.

If Mr.Pehla reads this thread then he will request the Qatar Authorities to ban Tata Sky :-) (we are also lucky Pehla functions out of the UAE)

Qatar authorities have two choices - then can allow Tata Sky - as even the Oman Authorities have said that it is a legitimate subscription (you are paying for it) and perfectly allowed.

or ban Tata sky (consfiscate set up boxes) - the UAE authorities where i've read reports of set top boxes being consfiscated at Dubai airport.

Bring it, install it, use it. If any notification comes across that it is illegal (thanks to discussiong like this in Public forums) we'll all be at LOSS.

Tata Sky is awesome!!!!

Hi Simsima,

I live in Abu Dhabi , UAE and brought with me the Tatsky decoder and Dish from India.

I would like to know if it will work in the Gulf region and if you are able to receive all programs??

Are ther any specific settings / Satellite to be linked to get the signal??

I look forward to your early reply.

With Reagards,

The secondary set top box costs (in India) Rs. 1500 only + activation charge of Rs. 500.

Here if you do not have a dish.... it would cost you QR 900 all inclusive.

You can pay subscription online...

Not AT&T but Apple. AT&T would not gain anything if iPhone does not not use their service but for Apple it is an iPhone sold.

I just returned to Doha this morning.    I brought this morning my TATA SKY.    I just packed it along with my other usual cloths, etc in my luggage.    I traveled alone (not with family) I didnt face any issue both in Indian and in Doha customs.

I got the additional set box, installed and activated back in India.   After the installation, I got it removed and brougt only the set top box.   Now whatever package my main set top box is registered with can be seen through the additonal set top box installed in Doha too.     However we can add package or edit or remove package through online too.

It is NOT LEGAL as per the standards fixed by the TATA SKY as a manufacturer and service provider.

u dont have to sneak it in a lap top case. just bring it in ur luggage.just  make sure u are bringing only one. then its not a problem.

Chances are that it might be confisticated in airport..The u takes it will definately use it in his house..!! hahaa. But remeber to hide the smart card for Tatasky decoder..so even if its taken away atleast the other person wont be able to use it..!!

There are  Restaurents in Qatar are using TATA SKY openly.

It is illegal in India to take it out of Indian territory... I agree.  My question is... what about in DOHA ?  is it illegal ?

bringing a decoder is very easy. just buy a tata sky in india and get it installed and activated there.

after using it in india for 3-4 days just get the receiver, the remote and the decoder with u.get in contact with any dish technician. he will install it here. he takes about 700-800 rial for it.

i have got one and its running successfully.

By anonymous• 4 Mar 2008 15:22

but do not forget it is illegal.

I don't think so the customs at Doha will stop you for the TataSky Box.  However please remember it is restricted for use within India.

hey just bring it in a laptop bag. So while going to india take an empty laptop bag...come back with the reciever in that bag...no1 will open it thinking its a laptop
