Television

Hi,

I am an expat moving into Qatar. I used to work in Saudi Arabia where the common practise is to have one's own Satellite dish and receiver for Television. How is this done in Qatar ? I am basically interested in some Indian channels, Sports, movie channels, Cartoons and probably, Hotbird. Anybody have any ideas ?

Can't ask for a more detailed clip of information......Thanks a lot and I think Pehla would be a good option (which I was using in Saudi). I used to have SILVER card. Being a Malayalee, I get to watch some Malayalam channels on Pehla. If I have Asia Sat, I think I can get more of Indian Channels. I will give it a try with one of those electronic shop guys when I reach there....

Thanks once again.....

Well you can try AL ANNABI,SQUARE,RXPHONES electronic shops they sell dish and they have dish fixer. Here in doha, its easy to fix HOTBIRD,NILESAT small dish & receivers all costing about Qr.600/-.

However, if you need indian channels, you have the following options.

1. QTEL MOZAIC Service(TELEPHONE LINE+ADSL[High Speed Internet Connection]+TV) try http://www.mozaic.qa/ and choose the package you like. However, personally i dont prefer MOZAIC as they dont provide a good service(faulty) and they eat up lots of money/time/energy. - 100% Legal

2. You can fix a big dish around 120-160 cms. However, 160 is not available and banned/illegal in doha. It catches all FTA channels from india. So you can enjoy Sports,Movies etc., from india. If you're lucky enough to get it, it would be fine. 160 cms dish+Installation cost atleast Qr.950/- -

3. You can subscribe for Pehla Card with the local dealers and it works on your HOTBIRD/NILESAT connection, however the rates are very high. As you know there are different packages like BASIC,SILVER,GOLD costing 65,125,250 Qr. respectively. however, SILVER or GOLD is preferable to get enough channels Its good if you dont look for the cost. - 100% Legal

4. The final is getting a dish TV subscription from INDIA for TATASKY or DISHTV(signal very bady and problem with their decoder) and bring the receiver(decoder) to doha to fix it only with 160cm dish. This is illegal and not allowed if youre lucky and didn't get caught by the customs in doha, You'll watch around 160 indian channels for an yearly cost of Qr.300/- worth and unbelievable cost. There's no guarantee because the signal is 24% only, though they say 18% is enough.

Same here, u buy a couple of dishes, with a couple of cams, and with the right worker, u can get all those channels, including Cartoons and Sports.
