Tenancy Agreement
I currently have a problem with the Landlord, I signed the tenancy agreement for 1 year, and it will expire on September 2009 due to the termination letter given to me by my company I dont have option but to terminate the agreement, I informed my landlord about my situation and I have to vacate the flat end of May which I did. I went to thier office to turn over the key and to collect my cheque but they refused to take it and they told me that I have to pay one month rent, is it the landlord's right? My company is giving me 3 months time to search for a job, in this case I will be still here in Doha to try my luck.
Any advise what to do with my landlord since he dont want to listen to me? He is only after the one month rent which I can give due to my current situation.
DreamNCruise, its not mentioned in the contract that I have to pay penalty or extra charges if I wish to vacate the flat. When I receive the termination letter I immediately inform the Landlord, this happened fist week of May and also I told them that because of this I cannot pay the rent at all since I will have to search for a new job, so I vacated the flat last May 30, 2009.
Look at your contract... What does it say??!! This clause should be stated inside...Its one of the most common clause inside the contracts... If it says that you need to pay one month's rent then better give and go.. If there is no such thing mentioned in the contract then y don't you just live in the apartment for another month...It kind of giving a month's notice to the land lord to look for his tenant...!!!
Wish you good luck...
unfortunately, your land-lord has the legal right to "snap-up" one month's rent in case you are the one who wants to terminate the yearly contract before it expires.
