Hi,

Can anyone please give me any advise on what is the best way to transfer money back home to England. I need to send money once a month to my bank account as I still have commitments there.

I managed to transfer some money today but the exchange rate wasnt very good and I had to pay a fee.

in my case, i send money to the Philippines thru Western Union.

Money is receive instantly, like instantly.

But i experience its "offline" excuse, and the money was received 8 hours later.

-such a good excuse.

I don't know it this will help but i was considering the same question myself...i was thinking of opening a HSBC account here and having a HSBC account opened back home and just transfer online.

That way you get good rates on exchange and the transfer is safe as well.

Uptill now i have been doing it through exchanges...the charges are not high but there is definately the exchange loss..

The guy at QNB told me if less than 10,000 USD you can do it online.

I wired money back twice now with no prob at QNB...

You have to have an account with them though...

So I just opened savings account with them....

You can also use XOOM to send money from your checking account to anyone...

Use one of the many money changers.

They are quick, cheap and generally give a better rate than the banks.

Doha bank will not allow money to be sent to England using the online service but you can set up a monthly standing order. We have found this fine over the last 2 years but the rate does go up and down. When sending to LLoyds TSB UK, it usually arrives within 24 hours. Hope this helps.

Check out Custom House at:

http://www.customhouse.com/

It's a Canadian firm that runs the money transfers at the airports worldwide. Thier competitor Travelex was annoying to deal with but Custom House is a great way to move funds worldwide.

Found out about it a couple of years ago in an article on a flight from Milan to Frankfurt and I've been using it ever since.

Hope it works for you.

I use commercial bank to tranfer money to my US Bank account and they charged me about 30 or 60 riyals per transaction.

The best is to transfer enough for like a 2 or 3 months as the fee will be charged only once.

Cheers
