What's the benefit of balloon tires?

I recently bought a 2004 Nissan Patrol Super Safari.

It has balloon tires. Does anyone know what the benefit of these tires are or not ?

Also are they more expensive than standard tires ?

Is it worthwhile for me to change them to normal tires ?

Is there more wear on balloon tires on normal roads ?

I'm unlikely to go duning but will travel long distance in the future across the middle east.

Boss 99 is answered your question, the only addition I will have the fuel consumption is more because of the size and the weight of balloon tire. You consume more fuel on road \ off-road. The original radial tire from Nissan are equally good off-road make sure you have proper air pressure on \ off-road.

Normally Baloon Tyres are good for sand, but if you going to travell on normal hiways, it will be cheaper if you choose ON ROAD Radial Tyres, and make sure always that you have the correct air pressure in Tyres.

these tires r good for off road and its good for sand mud all these things but my friend be care ful when u r driving on road with these tires drive slow specially when u r near roundabout ok other wise u cant control the car.....

in sand dunes.. yes it is much better ..

some of them are costly

but as you are going to travel abroad change them to ordinary ones..

btw you cannnot go for very high speed with these ballons
