The best residential area for quality of life is West Bay Lagoon. You will need an accomodation allowance of QR20,000 and above to pay for a villa there. Choose from beach side villas with gardens and pools, park view villas which lead down to the beach, and mostly small compounds. The parks are numerous and well maintained and have flood lit tennis courts. The lagoon is great for running, dog walking, fishing, beach life, water sports, boating (and golf just outside) and generally good quality of life. Relatively dust-free though not sand-free!

You can commute to all areas of Doha - schools, offices, shopping areas, easily from the Lagoon.

Ideally you should aim for:

1) something that's close to your kids school if you have any kids.

2) brand new compounds.

3) preferably a little away from the main city district, marketplace, old Doha.

Reasons: although Doha is a small city, it's road planning is horrible and causes extremely long congestion specIally In the center of the city.

The constructiontion really sucks here big time. So the old communities would have constant plumbing issues, water leakage, electrical issues, and the list goes on...and lastly coz most of the maintenance companies here are not worth a dime. Either they don't do the job or they simply make the problem bigger.

ps:Don't go for west bay or pearl unless you are a millionaire.

Best of luck. Let me know if you need help. I have some friends In the real estate leasing.

I'd recommend you find a school for your kids first and then ask the question of what are the best compounds close to that school. Traffic conditions in the morning can be a nightmare and you don't want to spend an hour driving your kids to school every day.
