I am a White 47 year old Canadian with 10 years experience in metal refining as a foreman and I've completed a post grad diploma in finance from an English University. What are my job prospects for a high paying job (25,000 rials a month)?

RO, there really isn't as much racial discrimination in jobs as there is a preference for western-educated, western-experienced employees. The corporate culture appears to be quite different and employers recognize and value this. Thus the appearance of racial differentiation.

Thanks for the follow up Mandilulur. I am following my wife's lead, she was offered a great job and I currently make the equivilant of 25,000 QAR a month after tax. The "white" comment was not intended to insult, but just to gather a number since I understand there is a discrepancy in that regard.

Your additional information/clarification is helpful. I'd say you have a decent chance at a good salary. However, like most job markets, it may take one month per $10,000/yr salary to find the job, i.e., an $80,000 /yr job may take 8 months to find. And narrowing the job search/description will help. May I ask why Qatar? It's neither the garden spot of the world nor are the streets paved with gold except for a very few.

Well it's nice to see that this site is like the rest of the internet. 1 or 2 decent answers after wading through the usual dumbass responses.

1) I mention white because EVERYONE knows there is a pay difference due to colour and I was asking about salary. To even state otherwise puts you in the imbecile category.

2) "foremen" for my company typically means university grad (usually engineering) - it's not a shop floor lead hand that shows people how to sweep or cut wood. Production Supervisor is the tech term but I just choose foreman as the local colloquialism.

3) I Don't think graduade school from a top Brit university is considered lowly qaulified.

4) and this IN NOT CANADA - they have specific job posting stating preference to race.

Good Lord how do some of you people manage to turn on a computer.

Dude, you are an embarassment for fellow Canadians .... who cares about your color... if you mentioned that in Canada I guarantee you would never get a job.. and if an employer mentioned it anywhere... it would get sued... easy money. So no, I dont think you are a Canadian even if your passport says so.. and btw.. your appear to be low on qualifications as well.

Why do you want to come to Qatar? CANADA itself a good country ! It is very bad to describe yourself with COLOUR and NATIONALITY. Totally a RACISM. Just by showing off colour, people want to get HIGH SALARY and not by work and technicality. This is an UGLY WORLD.

Anyhow dont worry Qatar has no place since QATAR do not produce any METALS here.

Hmm, generally what one might consider a "blue collar" job doesn't pay at all, much less well.

Hi,

I think better to check with Canadian community live in Qatar. Try to find out one by browsing. According to my knowledge, most of Europeans, Americans work in managerial levels and earn much more.
