Skyrocketing prices!

Has anyone else noticed the sudden increase in prices in Doha?

I just went to the Al Dana Club to see the facilities and was informed that its now 7,500 QR for a single lady membership, up from 2,500 QR last year!! The same story with the Dip Club, membership has more than doubled overnight. With the Aussie dollar getting so much stronger, if the rents DON'T go down soon I'd have to query whether I'm really saving more money in Qatar or not!

Well if you read my book "Men are from Mars, Bedouins are from Doha" then you would have learnt that some lies dont even count when a man uses them, they are fair play!

1-When we lie to impress a girl!

2-When we lie to a girl in order to get with her hotter friend!

3-When denying ever having a gay experience!

4-When denying its you in video footage of that same experience!

5-When asked if a woman looks 'fat'!

6-When asked how much you make a month!

Its a long list of lies that dont count so you have to consult the book to be sure. And for those who bought the first edition of the book i made a change in the newer ones so you can no longer use the lie "I accidently fell on the vaccum cleaner pipe while it was on and i happened to have my pants down" next time your at the doctors getting it removed!! You'll just have to tell them what you were really doing!

and your other resolution was to go for a day without telling lies wasnt it.

hows that going for you? can i believe your answer?

ha ha ha... have you ever actually done that? I wonder what their response would be. Probably "whose askin' and whats it worth to ya"

In the middle east absolutely everything seems to be based on wasta and price. Not where I come from!

One of my new years resolutions was to stop making my monthly prank-calls to restaurants in Saudi and asking them what time the bar will open.....which will ironically save me 7500 riyals this year! So Liana you can consider it my new-years gift to you!

lianna do you need company to workout, bcos if you dont and only prefer the tv then i suggest get a nice treadmill (tm). it does wonders.

i had my tm first facing a wall and it would be so boring to walk on it just staring at the wall while the tv was a few steps away but i cudnt see it.

then i fought with my hubby and dad and sneaked the tm into the hall in front of the tv. no one will dare take it back anywhere again, they dont have the time and i do the pushing of furniture mostly as and when i feel like.

so its better now, i watch tv (usually its dr phil bcos thats the time i get to walk when my little one is sleeping) and listen to my ipod while walking. the weather is lousy to go for a walk on corniche.

have u tried ramada, i think they charge 5000 for single membership.

yeah its a bit silly that men aren't allowed in, at certain times but women are allowed in whenever they like (yay)! Dweller, I know they don't HAVE to justify the price increase, of course its their right to do whatever the hell they feel like.

But their decision must have been based on something. Actually I found out why and its just about keeping the club exclusive and ensuring that its never too crowded, and relaxing for its members.

Han 19 if you're the one who dances and sings to herself on the corniche i think i've seen you!! ha ha. yeah a lot of people stare and make comments, sometimes i'm in the zone enough not to notice but when i'm running and bouncing about, the attention is unwanted so i'd rather try to get my exercise on a cross trainer.

It is really a nice club, but men are not allowed in before 6 pm on three days a week and before1 pm on another 3 days and friday is only family day. that's why its always empty

I always tell the truth, even when I lie

They don't have to justify the increase.

The QP Falcon Club closed and I am not sure if QP pay there staff a recreational allowance so that they can join one of the other clubs in Doha. That alone would probably support an increase in fees

If the market will stand it they will charge it

have your ipod with you if you decide to walk on the corniche.

why do people stare at you when you walk there....actually they stare at me too but i dont give a damn, but then again i think they stare at me because i am usually talking to myself :-)or trying not to dance while walking and listening to my music.

oh! when will this chill warm up?

so are you done with diet centre?whats the final outcome?how you doing anyway. btw its way too expensive that dana is charging, i think ramada charges less.

see i would walk on the corniche but you can't watch television while you're walking on the corniche, the weather is unpredictable and there are thousands of people staring. and there's no steam room at the end. oh i am being such a princess. i know you're right but you should have seen inside!! and it was so luxurious and completely empty, it would be like swimming around in an indoor pool in your own palace :-)

anyhow i've managed to justify it to myself (dont ask how its very complicated and not entirely logical!!) so am applying to join. anyway, the Diet Centre have put up their prices to 2,650 this year so i'm stopping that (since i can use a gym now) and i'm saving money there too...

that's an insane increase!! wow I don't think renovations warrant such a dramatic increase in cost. Forget it, just walk on the corniche until the weather becomes miserable and join a gym for the three summer months.

oh. I wonder how they are justifying the price increase then? I probably could have got my head around paying that much if i didnt know it was 5000 QR cheaper just a week ago!

The Al Dana club has always had a big indoor and outdoor pool (which had the bar). I don't think the renovations affected the pools...

In the two years I have been here I have seen the prices going up and up. I remember when I first arrived I could buy garments in Splash for 20 QR, nowadays you can't find anything lower than 100. Same with food and items at supermarkets.

We still manage to save 1000 each month, but it takes a lot of self discipline these days.

You know...the baby formula that we buy has gone up by QR3. Not much, but it's still been jacked up.

By Miss Interpreted• 3 Jan 2007 08:32

um... thanks for that. can I call you "loco" for short?

anyway, I found out that the reason the Dana club prices went up so much is because it was recently renovated. and the facilities are indeed, absolutely awesome. a big indoor pool as well as a big outdoor pool, with one of those bars with the seats in the water.

so i think i will join anyway. who cares about savings when you can sip on a cocktail while sitting in the pool!!
