QP Grade code and offer flexibility

Abidos
By Abidos

Sorry if i am repeating any previously discussed topics, i have been look at this web site but couldn't find the exact info i am after.

I have been made an offer by QP for grade code 14 Systems Engineer with a basic salary of 15K and housing allowance of 9700QR, there are some other benefits such as western inducement and currency uplift (what ever that means?).

Question is how flexible are QP on thier offers, from the reading i have done on this web site, the housing prices have shot up so maybe this might not be enough since i am with family.

Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated.

I have been in QP for two days (22nd of Jan 2009)for technical interview along with a medical check. I have signed a document "Standard Terms & Conditions for Indefinite Contract of Employment" for an expatriate Senior Staff and they told me that they'll send me an email in which they will make an official offer. Since then I'm waiting. Just asking if it is the usual procedure?.

Thanks

Search for my post. I have described the process few days ago in reply to the same question.

Whoever told your hubby that isn't up to speed on the history of it.

The exchange rate was always a problem and it could have been resolved with QP picking up the variance (including getting the benefit when the dollar increases). Emirates Airlines have a process where 50% of the salary is guaranteed in base country salary.

The Minister and the board actually halved what was originally proposed as WIA.

Well lets see what happens, I put a counter offer to QP and havent heard back since (its only been a day), even thier original offer wasn't too bad, just seeing how far i can push them.

Any idea what happens during the on site interview? Apparently i will meet HR, and the department i will working for, and then show me around Qatar, oh there is the medical as well.

Ooops... that what i being told by darling hubby :-) To be honest the WIA not really cover the exchange rate now. We like getting 20 percents pay cut compare to 5 yrs ago because of the pound getting stronger.

If you are to be based at Dukhan including during the probationary period you will not receive housing allowance.

You will be accommodated in Dukhan.

As I said earlier, the above assumes that you will be based in Dukhan

The WIA was not introduced to cater for fluctuations in exchange rate.

It was introduced because QP were unable to attract Western staff with the scales at the time (1992 if my memory serves me correctly).

During the three month stay in QP housing, you will not be paid any housing allowance. QP directly deals with the land lord and they have a housing complex that they have rented for the purpose of accomodating the newly arrived employees. Chunk03, if your work loaction is Dukhan, you may not be staying in Doha for three months. After your initail three day stay in a Hotel, you will be moved to Dukhan. Dukhan is around 50 minutes drive from Doha.

You will be given some money from your furnishing allowance at your arrival and the rest of Your furnishing allowance will be given to you at the end of three months (after your confirmation) and you can use that money for furnishing and also to pay 1st month rent and one month advance for rent of the place that you will be renting. With three months of salary already paid to you, you will be floating in money anyways -:)

Chuck03,

Does your contract state when you will be getting your housing allowance?

Abids,

im due too begin employment with QP,and the contract i have states they put you up in temp accomidation for the first 3 months, possibly in Doha, then transfer you too your own accom in my case Durhan,or thats how ive understood it,i may be wrong...........

I probably know the answer to this already but i'll ask anyway. In the first 3 months QP house you somewhere (not sure where), during this period do they still pay the housing allowance, or is this for when you move out to your own housing arrangement? The only reason i ask is there might be an off chance that QP might give you this allowance before hand to pay for a deposit for when you do move out, or does QP deal with the landlord directly?

It supposed to cover the fluctuation (spelling?) or the exchange rate. Nearly 6 yrs ago when we arrived it was 5 riyal to the poundsterling. Now it is 7 riyal to the poundsterling, WIA supposed to cover that.

Wow, a reply already, you guys are good (or got nothing better to do).

Yes i will be in IT, waiting for the on site interview to be sorted out, no doubt a lot of my questions will be answered then, but nice to go in with some info before hand.

not flexiable too. These are fixed amounts that are payed to westerners only and the amount varies depedning on your nationality. In which department of QP you will be working. My guess is IT. The IT offcies are in Doha. Probably you will be working from the RAS ABU Abood Area in Doha where the IT head quater is.

Thanks all for the feedback, quite helpful. I'm curious to know where QP is based, or where thier headquaters is, i'm assuming its near Doha somewhere.

Anyone know what the following are?

Western inducement and currency uplift, and do these change or are flexible at all?

HI,

im in a similar boat as you,in england at the min,but hopin to go too Qatar in the next month or so working for QP,struggling too get my head around all the offers n salary, but, layed awake numerous nights thinking about it,and decided now im gunna go for it as i havnt heard a bad word about the place, and hey, apart from family, what has ENGLAND got too offer????????????

Yes, 9700 for housing is not enough to rent a villa. You will only be able to get an appartment in the money that is offered to you as housing allowance. But you cannot negotiate on housing as it seems that you are being hired on an Indefinte contract and they will do not offer company accomodation for these contarcts and housing is not negotiable as it is fixed based on which grade is being offered to you.

Even if they need you badly they are not flexible. Assuming that you are highly needed and job will suffer without you and the department where you will be working pushes HR to get you very hard, they may add up 500 to 1000 QR max.

15000 is not a bad offer for grade 14 though.

Not flexible at all, either you take it or leave it. Some people we know can't afford the house with that allowance, so they choose to leave.

However ... QP have a good working hours. 6.30 to 2.30pm, the rest of the day you can spend it with the family :-)

15K basic for grade 14 is a good offer. I dont think there is any more flexibility in this but trying for 1/1.5k more should not hurt.

Best of luck
