Great forum, very informative. I am a Western English-speaking Canadian, who has BSc (biology/Chemistry) and a MSc in chemistry (biochemistry), and several years experience teaching first, second, and third year university biology, chemistry, and biochemistry courses.
I have several questions. What kind of base salary could I expect for a fulll time teaching position in Qatar, assuming housing (villa or apartment), health, and transportation is included? I am married but have no kids. How would the base salary compare to say, equivalent jobs in Dubai? I am also curious whether I would be seriously considered for a teaching position as I do not have a BEd or a PhD.
Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

the company offered base salary 292,800 qatar Riyal + 4-door small car + school education in the British school for all my children (4)+ the company will rent the furnished villa under the company name with free utilities+ air tickets.
The position is Contract manager for oil and gas company. I have 20 years western experience.
1. should I get a bonus at end of each year?
2. should I get a bonus at end of the contract (4 years)?
3. Was the offer I got considered good (normal)?
4. Severance pay ? what should it pay just incase?
5. Company medical/dental insurance: 1100 Qatar Riyal every month will be deducted from my check? Is that ok?
6. Would I be working during the local Holiday in the oil and gas industry? No mention of local holidays in the offer.

I am living here for almost 2 years and can help you replying some of your questions:1.What is the expected (base)salary range for such a position?
2. I don't think so, I never heard that a company did it before.
3. Rent cost for villas are variable. They could be between 15,000 and 25,000 depending where you would like to live. West Bay is a nive place to live. Be sure that the villa you would like to rent has a maid room in case you want to hire a maid. Salaries for maids living in are between 800 and 1000 riyals/month. It is better when the company pay the rent direct. If you accept an allowance, be very carefully about the increase, usually is every 1 year. You can negotiate with the owner of the house the utility bills to be included in your rent.
4. Bonus should be between 10 and 15% of the annual basic salary.
5. Both of them are the same. The expensive school here it's the American School. You have other options as Doha College, DESS or Park House. For references regardinf fees, search on their websites, you will find all the information. Usually any company pay for the bus transportation and only a few schools offers this service.
6. You should ask at least for one ticket per year for all the members of your family to go back home. Depending on the position you will be working these could be on economy or business class. I suggest you to ask the company to pay directly for tickets, you never know if you will be flying on high or low season and prices could change.
7. Expats, usually have 30 days per year.
8. I am not sure, but could be a extra 13th salary a year.
9. Depending on the type of job you will be doing. Car are not really expensive, but consider to buy at least 2 cars, one for you and other for your wife because there are not too many taxis and the public transportation is not recommended for her and your children.
10. Public insurance en DOha is good. The best private hospital in my opinion is the Al Alhi. You should ask the company you will have the interview to explain in details they insurance policy and be sure that you will be cover as well during the time you will be in holidays in your country.

Questions (urgent responses are appreciated):
1.What is the expected (base)salary range for such a position?
2.Can the company pay back the employee an equivalent check to replace the Taxes that I will end up paying in my home country?
3. What is the rent cost for (furnished) accomodations (4 bed rooms 2-floors villa, 3 bath rooms, AC, seperate maid room,in a closed complex)? Should I ask the company to pay rent directly? Should I accept an allowance then I pay for the rent? Does the rent increase every 3 months, or 6 months, or one year? Should the (utility)costs be included in the deal?
4. What kind of a percentage bonus should I ask for?
5. Should I accept an allowance for kids' school? or should I ask the company to pay the school directly? Is the bus transportation cost usually part of the deal?
6. Air line tickets: Should I ask for economy or buisness travel? Is that too much to ask? Do I get paid an allowance for the tickets or the company pay directly?
7. How many days of vacation am I expecting to get per year? If I do not go back home for vacation, would I loose the vacation?
8. What does (13th check) means?
9. Would the company provide a car?
10. What is the best hospital in Doha that has the best Doctors? What are typical details for the (private) health care and benefits?
11. How many sick leave am I allowed to get?
11. Am I missing something that I should be aware of?
