After our school had the inspectors - Ofsted - in, we had a successful report and I got a lot of praise. Headteacher assumed I'd be heading off to run a school of my own. The inspectors left on a friday, I had a small gathering of friends friday night.
When they left, I went online to look for new teaching jobs, clicked on the international section in the TES by mistake, and, in a flash of inspiration, I decided to go abroad. I hadn't even considered it before.
The following morning I got an estate agent in to sell the house, by the wednesday I had sold it, and resigned from my job.
I had no job to go to.
In the end I had a choice of three jobs, one in Europe, one in Indonesia and one in South America. All good schools. I chose Venezuela, met my husband, moved to Asia, had my son, moved to Scandinavia, adopted a new son and soon we shall be in Qatar.
Best decision I ever made, that Friday night in early 2000..........everyone thought I was mad! My life has been immeasuraby better since leaving the clapped-out UK. I have traveled extensively, experienced many wonderful cultures and lived life to the full.
I am sure Qatar will be the latest in a long line of good, crazy decisions!
I guess going to middle himalayas in monsoon season and getting stuck between two land slides whilst watching people slipping into deep dungeon. Still get goose bumps while thinking about the risk we took.
when I got pregnant (at the age of 20) and about to take up my Medical Degree (I was a graduating PRE-MEDICINE student, then); went through the pregnancy, and as soon as I graduated, took a job and supported my kid and myself...
NEVER MARRIED the guy...
another RISK...because SINGLE PARENT in the early 90's was NOT EASY. I even lost my first job (after graduating) when they found out that I am Single with a child.
Now, I can say...ALL was worth the RISK...
Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain!- UNKNOWN
And after that getting married and shoulder the burdens of family !!!! People before marriage are dare enough to take many risks in life, but after that lol the percentage of taking risks drastically falls...
For me the biggest risk is driving in losail road, the road to raslaffan...
1-Having "SEX" without protection, Is like playing the Russian Roulette, with a six shooter pistol and one bullet in the chamber and taking turns at the trigger. While is being point to your own skull. 2-To be American in a hostile continent. 3-Investing your money in the stock market and losing it all in 12 hours. 4- Getting married is a gamble. 5- To be Homosexual and lesbian in a moslem country. 6-Working and driving in Doha is a daily gamble of your life. Darude Driving around Doha, while you drive my truck and Im just watching and learning the back streets of Doha. Definitely is fun to be the passenger, while you drive my truck! That is what I called a calculated risk. Good thing about it, you are a excellent chaffer, we should do it more often. Consider it a compliment Amigo! My answer is similiar to most everyone else's response in that both my husband and I quit secure, decent paying jobs, packed up our kids and left friends and family behind to come to Doha. And so far it has been a great opportunity for all of us.
first most important one is facing that Islam may not be the truth, talking it over with my husband and fearing the consequences.
The second risk was becoming muslim, marrying my husband and leaving my family for the sake of Allah because I thought Islam is a religion perfected by God!
lol u should get one.. I think QL should have this deal with Qatar Airways, that if someone gets like 10,000 points, he can get like 20% discount from Qatar Airways lol.
I got a biggest risk in Life when i was recording my song back home with other Famous Singers there..even i didnt even knew any loops to sing and i got successful
t'was following my parent's choice of my career and putting aside my passion...but now i've realized they only want the best for me... and that choice brought me here... happy with it....
It was a choice of "getting rid" of it to pursue a Medical degree or "keeping it" and face the consequences.
I choose the 2nd option, and took a huge risk in my life...went through a lot. And 16 years later...I have NO REGRETS WHATSOEVER of making THAT decision.
The biggest risk i have taken so far is leaving my job, my career, my family, packing my bags and head here to Doha to rebuild my dreams for myself and my family.

I think, the "riskiest" thing a man would do....is to sleep at night...
and he doesn't know if he would wake up the next day....and where is he
going after that.....its an everyday risk!...have we thought of that?

I got a biggest risk in Life when i was recording my song back home with other Famous Singers there..even i didnt even knew any loops to sing and i got successful
[---"Death ends a life, not a relationship"---]
...my biggest risk is driving downtown. All that adrenaline makes me feel alive. Who needs base jumping, eh...?
Probably deciding not to go for a career in law, giving up my job and moving to Qatar to live with a guy I've only known 8 months.
Life's too short to regret not taking a risk.
t'was following my parent's choice of my career and putting aside my passion...but now i've realized they only want the best for me... and that choice brought me here... happy with it....

Good for you and him, Apple.
When I accepted my husbands proposal for marriage. He is Arab and I'm asian. And thanks God, it goes all positive:))))
Double edged sword. But what the heck. That's part of risk taking and living.
I understand. It made me see the other side of the coin. That was enough for me. Hence the question.
Indulge. Sounds like a Häagen-Dazs commercial.
Didnt get the whole idea alexa? U finally went to the US or not?
How come, Alexa?
Moving to Doha leaving my business back home.
Ooops.

Likewise.
Preparing to uproot everyone and move us all to Qatar is the biggest risk I have encountered.
What is yours DaRuDe?
It dun't really matter.
The biggest risk i have taken so far is leaving my job, my career, my family, packing my bags and head here to Doha to rebuild my dreams for myself and my family.
