Hi everyone

Another newie to this site..I have been offered 13,600QAR / month salary plus housing plus annual flight home, relocation and settling in allowance.

The job is as an education advisor and I have over 20 yrs experience with Masters. is this a reasonable offer to maintain a good standard of living in Doha?

Any advice appreicated. Thanx

Try to negotiate a transportation allowance, which will be about 1000 QR/m or a car that you can share with another teacher.

Also try to negotiate full medical coverage.

If you don't drink and smoke your monthly expenses for groceries and outings could be around 3000 to 4000 QR. For a couple 5000 QR/m is ample, again assuming that beer is not the main ingredient of your diet :D

If the offer is reasonable or not; it should be more or less equal to what you would be earning in your country of origin, before taxes.

Hi colt45,

Thanks for your breakdown (I guess it's a reflection of your budget :o\). Could I say that I could live a simple but reasonably decent live with QR5000 a month (excl accomodation & not driving)?

Of course, everyone's yardstick to simple living is different. But to me, it means healthy food, no beer, no cigar, no luxury brands, etc ...

Thanks.

Do you have any idea to bring your family here and stay for long time..with children and all?....

As somebody said if you are going to have a europian style lilfe, then that is something you have to think about.then surely you cannot save...

for an induvidual and for a normal life style, this salary is good enough....u can save....

Good one... although the general health card from the municipal hospital covers about all, you may wanna talk to your employer about a specific health insurance like Allianz or something like that.

Another thing you may want to check is medical insurance.

Water and Elec - Qar 500 (maybe less if you are carefull)

Those amounts posted are approximates, could tilt either way, it all depends on you.

We have a great expat community here on QL and would be happy to have you here... Have fun!

Hi friend

its a reasonable offer.but there is no details about whats your curriculam.I can advise more if the curriculam is known.

another issue is you cant do any savings if you are maintaining american/european standard of living.

Depends what a good std. of living is to you. Yes QAR 13,600 is a good amount as a basic salary and you should be able to live comfortably with that. Ensure you get housing and that amount does not include housing, coz housing will take a good chunk off your salary. Breakdown is as follows, per month, all approx:

House Rent - Qar 7000 - 7500 (min for a 2 bedroom apt.)

Mozaic TV - Qar 250 (Cable + ADSL)

Car Loan - Qar 1500 - 2000 (Depending on the car you get)

Utilities - Qar 1500 - 2000 (depending on your food habits)

Dining Out - Qar 1000 - 1500 (depending on the restaurant)

Cleaner - Qar 500 - 600 (cleaning boys twice a week)

GOOD LUCK!
