Hey guys I have been offered a Salary of around 18,000 QAR a month. I am single and will be there alone. Do you think this is enough money to save money? I will have to have my own accommodation. They will give me full health benefits and 40 paid days off a year (whenever I chose) and will pay for my tickets roundtrip whenever I'd like to go home. What do you all think?

Bro I honestly didn't know. Some people were telling me that rent for a place could be like 10k a month. If thats the case, I would be thinking twice. Well I cant tell you exactly what I am going to be doing there right now because of confidentiality, but it is related to the health care business. I have a degree in Business Management, and I have close to 4 years experience in my field. If you think honestly that 18k per month will be good than I am happy. I have my own business here in America and it will continue to run while I am over there. I was contracted to do similar work there as a favor to a consulting company. I thought the experience would be good and it'll be a chance for me to network more. They way I look at it is that my expenses shouldn't be more than 8k a month including a 1bedroom apt, so that leaves me with 10k and I thought it woudl be more than enough. I just read some post where people were talking about the cost of living being around 15k a month. Thanks for th input, I wasnt trying to be greedy. And no, I didnt take offense, thanks for the honest answer.

Hey guys, the only reason why I posted this was because I got a little worried reading all those other threads. Everyone was saying that 18k QAR was not good enough. I am happy with it, but I thought I was miscalculating the cost of living. Thanks for the help guys, see you in Feb. =P

What the crap is wrong with you people, I normally read and pass by these kinda threads unless people have some really genuine doubts...

But what do I read here...

QR 18000 for a single guy and not enough, what the hell is wrong with you people, Hey dude, this is the scenario....

What in the world are you going to be working on...your job ... whats your education...whats your experience...then I'll tell you whether that is good or not...

See buddy, always remember and this goes out to everyone on here...

This place pays good salaries, but have some respect and justification for what you are and don't try and keep on Raping this place people...(pardon my strong language)...

Seriously, dude QR 18K for a single guy is hell lot of too much...even if you are going to drink down your throats and drop down dead...

People, open your eyes, don't keep on running behind money just because this is Qatar...as mentioned before, be reasonable...

QR 18K I'm sure there wouldn't be half the people who make that kinda money here on QL...so trust me, take it easy, and Mr. Chicago, you want to answer those questions I put up for you there...

And once again, Mr. Chic, I ain't being rude...please don't misunderstand me...

Alright I figured it out. I am going to ask for paid housing. Correct me here if I am wrong, but I made some estamatations. I am going to need about 1500 QAR for transport/month , 2000 QAR on food, 50 QAR for cell, 300 QAR for internet, 300 QAR for cable/tv so that is around 4000 QAR roughly. that means 13500 QAR left over a month. Now my understand is that 1 American dollar is 3.5 QARs. So that 13500 QAR would equal about $3800 in savings a month. That seems decent for me. Am I correct on this?

2500K for a three bedroom? Maybe 2500K US, defintely not in riyals. Even then it's unlikely.

With 18000 QR ($4931) you should not be living paycheck to paycheck as a single guy. Don't do all your shopping at the "western" grocery store, don't eat at Friday's for every meal, and don't go out every single night and you should be fine. We are a family of 4 and we make about that, but housing (and car) is paid for.

By spicemom• 6 Dec 2007 04:50
spicemom

since sept 2004 - july 2007 we have forked out fr our pockets QR 108K for housing as we arent getting sufficient allo for our housing. see wat that amt of money could do had we not have to fork it out on housing??ggggrrrrrrr(could've gotten my 2 carat bling to say the least.......:O(

That woman has a 3 bd / 4 bath tent if she is paying 2500 QR.

You don't need 30000 QR to survive but you do need housing paid for or every year more and more of your money will be eaten away. You're not being annoying - ask away.

have been here since 2004 stayed in a stand alone unfurnished no A/c'S 4 bedroom villa -1st 2 yRs rental was QR8K then 3rd yr QR10.5K , 4th yr QR 15K.......see how much they increase in rentals?some ppl lucky enough to get a place that is cheaper but that is like lookin for a needle in a haystack.......so is better if company did provide for yr accomodation..........as it is there seems to be no control over increase in rentals

Try to negotiate for the house rent i mean let them provide house as a seperate issue this way you will be OK

No way can you get a decent flat for 2500 one single room in a flat will cost you that much

By MrChicago• 6 Dec 2007 04:38
MrChicago

Sorry if I am being annoying but the contract is in negotiation here. I was told that some lady has 3 bed room apt with 4 bathrooms for like 2500 QAR a month. This is why I am confused. So if I get this deal with paid accommodations, will I be well off and live above the paycheck to paycheck deal?

By knoxcollege• 6 Dec 2007 04:36

I know quite many people on QL who are getting salaries below the 20K QR threshold but for every newcomer their advice is dont come here unless you are getting 30K or more.

If housing is paid for then you would have more than enough to save. One guy mentioned on here he went to look at a 2 bedroom apt in a crap complex and it was 7500. He said it was terrible. From what I've seen, sharing a villa will probably cost between 4000-6000. Seems like most US contractors we see on here get housing included.

so if I had them pay my housing, would it be worth it than? Is Qatar really taht expensive. I am getting paid around 65k American dollars/ year. So I figured that would break down to almost 18,000 QAR a month. Whats a good salary to come out there for?

By pwb78• 6 Dec 2007 04:21
Rating: 5/5
pwb78

18,000 isn't going to be enough if you have to pay for housing. Especially if you are going to be going out and socializing like you mentioned in the other thread. I guess you could share a villa with other westerns but you won't be getting anything nice by yourself. Just my opinion.
