A friend of mine is working in q and said he is making around 60q per month. Is this amoung the top salaries in q or this medium? He is trying to get me to come out and said I can expect the same. He also said he loves the qatar and is sure I would also. I will assume its BS until I see an offer in writing.

What does your friend do Lamea?

60k including housing sounds very good indeed for Qatar depending on what is your occupation?

As 'smoke' has said, if only we can earn half of that! But what kind of work would that be? Tossing airplanes for them to fly? Just kidding! It is what they call, an 'obescene' salary!!

Tech field, My wife might be interested in teaching, and extra 12,000qr would be nice. If you don't mind me asking, what is the rent range where you stay?

Redline,

What industry are you working in?  For teaching, I'd say the going rate is around QR12,000 for salary.    But this should include housing, insurance, and schooling fees.  I'm in English language instruction so I'm familar with this industry.

Most gates are guarded by guards -- not cards.  Some compounds take visitors ID cards in return for a visitor's cards.  Higher security.

I live in a compound and it is great but you lose privacy b/c you live and work with the same people.

Redline ... the compound guard depend on which compound. Some compound are strict, some dont. Posh compound like Al Jazzi, Al Fardan or Al Messilah always asking for visitor's ID before they let you in. Others like my compound the gateman not there most of the time.

They are guarded by security ... and actually i havent see the one with card access yet in Doha.

thx, for the info I will check on the medical. Are the gates guarded by security at the compunds or is it a card key type access?

hi redline ... compound is good when your child start playing with another kid/s, but then you can expect other people's kids knocking at your door all the time. Depend how strict you and your missus are, but i am sure you can sort that out. Not big deal.

Yes IMO compound is better and safer.

Yes do check on the medical. Going to good private hospital in Doha you can expect to pay QR 300 just for consultation fees. Some company like QP have their own clinic and chemist for the staffs i am not sure about others though.

I don't have any school age kids just wife and 5 month old, I have to check on the medical. So is staying in a compound not as good as a stand alone villa. I guess a compound just sounded safer to me. I guess it less privacy right?

thx for responces

housing, schooling, airfare and medical.

Depend where you come from ... but good english school now start at 8700 QR a term. If you want to stay in 3 bedroom villa not in the compound you have to be ready to pay min QR 15.000

Just make sure you check the small print first, that could be the whole package (including housing etc)
