I will be relocating to Qatar in about a month. I just want to get some suggestions on the essential things to bring when moving to Qatar. Are there particular items that are really difficult to get in Qatar. Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

most important: yor 115 V AC devices won't work here. It's 230 Volts in Qatar!

Well from household items, electronics, toys, fashion accessories and any outdoor facilities its all available here in doha. One thing most important to bring with you is your hobby stuff if you have any such items. If your musically inclined, you must bring your gears like guitar and gadgets etc...Your preferred specifications might not be available here. I have been here for almost 8 years. Mostly here its available but durability and quality differs from what you have back home. So have a nice trip to Doha.

If you are shipping furniture I would also send sheeting and bedding, bedspreads etc. We used to have a JC Pennys store but older things and more expensive. Outdoor furniture like wrought iron wears well due to the sun and heat but not available in Qatar. Almost everything in America is half the price than in Qatar, so if your company will ship your personal belongings do it. Also good cookware but not electronics.

If you like reading I would suggest you bring a good supply of books. They do have bookstores here but limited selections. I went with a list of books I wanted to buy to Virgin the other day and out of the 6 books I wanted to buy - they had none.

You get almost everything here... from food to fashion labels, you'll find a pretty decent selection here. There are hypermarkets/supermarkets specialized in western products. So your groceries are taken care off.

Its illegal to bring drugs to this country. So, while you're packing, make sure even nothing close to that is in u're bag by mistake! (dont get offended!)

(I guess pork is banned here, i suggest not to bring it also as you might be in trouble at the airport)

Cheers!

You can find almost everything in Qatar that you would find in the US. Don't weigh down your luggage as there are so many expats here that stores carry many American and UK products. There is a grocery store in The Center behind Dairy Queen that will have what you need. And in terms of household items, there are many beautiful stores in Qatar to purchase sheets, kitchen appliances, etc. as well as many stores that have beautiful clothes.

Have a nice trip!
