God: Proven and unproven in one post

I haven't been a member here for too long but in my time here i've noticed that many members get very enthusiastic when a religious debate about the existence of god comes around...then again, some of the apparently more experienced members roll their cyberspace eyes and mutter something unintelligible about how old this argument's become.

I'm not here to start it again i promise, i just think that it's silly to argue about the existence of god...and that's not an opinion, that's from a very logical argument that goes a little like this.

you can't prove god exists. if you could then you have just proven that god doesn't exist. how? it's simple really.

let's assume that someone considers the universe, with all it's laws and grand designs, to be the ultimate un-refutable proof of god's existence. well then that means that god has put evidence of his existence that we can perceive and understand. that means that none of us believe in god anymore, we know him.

you don't have faith that water will boil at 100 degrees celsius, you know it. you don't have faith that that steel is harder than wood, you know it. and if you know god then you can't possibly have faith in him any longer.

thankfully, there is no proof of god's existence...some say that's because he doesn't exist but it's just as logical to say that that's because he does.

proof denies faith, and without faith there is nothing. i applaud those that do have faith, but keep in mind that the best faith is a silent one, one that's kept to one's self. if your relationship with god isn't a personal thing, then you're nothing but a preacher...a salesman for a product that can never prove it exists.

This is perhaps the best summary of this issue that I've read in a very long time.

If you want to read various points of view (and not just post the typical 'God does/doesn't exist because I do/don't believe it' response) then this is really worth the click:

http://bostonreview.net/BR34.1/byrne.php

God has had a lot of bad press recently. The four horsemen of atheism, Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennett, Sam Harris, and Christopher Hitchens, have all published books sharply critical of belief in God: respectively, The God Delusion, Breaking the Spell, The End of Faith, and God Is Not Great. Dawkins, Harris, and Hitchens pile on the greatest amount of scorn, while Dennett takes the role of good cop. But despite differences of tone and detail, they all agree that belief in God is a kind of superstition. As Harris puts it, religion “is the denial—at once full of hope and full of fear—of the vastitude of human ignorance.”

Beleive in something otherwise you will end believing every thing..

So belief/Faith = Existence of the almighty..

Great post, I have said many times that peoples beliefs are their own, and your relationship with God is personal. Kudos to you :)

Remember kids, truth is whatever a person believes... your truth is not always someone elses :)

What is surprising is even you could not resist talking about that alluding proof of God's existence! no wonder, all want to solve difficult puzzles.

Anyway, your last paragraph is worth pondering over for many here on QL.

What I see is that God created the Universe and created human beings with unique capabilities to be considered special for God. God made all provisions for man to enjoy this world teaching him about the secrets of the universe which the other species do not know. Considering the fact that God doesn't make himself manifest to the creation, we can assume that He wants his creation to enjoy the bounties of this world. If God made himself clearly manifest the the man would just forget this world and bow down to Him forever thatwould nullify God's purpose of creation. Just enjoy God's bounties and thank Him.....

Alot of people have soo much to talk about God and his existance....

i wont say much but let me make it easy for you....

When some one looses hope in life and has nothin left...the first ray of hope that comes to him then proves the presence of God....

U or me have not seen God ...all religion have different to say about God...we only know what we were taught by our elders...and they learnt it from their elders..so will our kids learn from us....Its a cycle....

Had u taken borth in christian family you would worship in a different way / as a muslim you would worship in a different way.....

Religions are like different roads leading to one destination which is God....

love and respect all religions like how u do to yours..
