Woman fined for attack on plane passenger

A COURT has fined a Lebanese woman QR3,000 for assaulting another woman after an argument while on a flight from Bahrain to Doha.
The incident took place on May 24 last year.
The plaintiff, a 47-year-old Qatari, told investigators that the Lebanese passenger in front kept pushing her seat back, “causing me inconvenience”.
The Qatari woman said: “I asked her not to cause me problem but she ignored my requests twice and uttered blasphemous words. When I protested, she stood up and struck me on my face causing injuries.”
The Lebanese woman, 22, said the plaintiff attacked her first and that she was defending herself.
A medical report showed that the scratches on the victim’s face were caused by an “assault with an object like finger nails.”
The Qatari woman’s father-in-law testified under oath that the Lebanese used her nails and pulled the victim’s hair after taking the hijab out.
However, another witness said the Qatari woman also insulted the Lebanese before it turned into a scuffle.
The defendant’s lawyer said Qatari courts had no jurisdiction over the case, but the judge dismissed the argument saying the incident took place five minutes before the aircraft was to land in Doha.
The victim’s lawyer presented photos to the court demanding a compensation of QR1mn for the “psychological and physical damages” that his client had suffered. However, the court said such a claim could be made in a civil court.
The case is open for appeal in a higher court.

Claws more than a half-inch long will not be tolerated on board. They will have to be clipped or owners must make sure that pets are made to wear gloves.

Good time watching? Yeah right!!! I've been on many a weekend Bahrain-Doha flight (Bahrain Air, on a budget, can't afford Gulf Air) and the way some of these locals behave is appalling. Fortunately for me the flight only lasts 25 mins.

BTW, co-incidentally the last time I was scratched buy a young Lebanese 22 yr old was in Bahrain, but I loved every moment of it [wink]. LOL!

ridiculous to ask for that sum for a few scratches!!!

People in armed forces who have limbs blown off don't get as much

Hmm, now I know I can get my claws out on a flight nearing Doha. Sometimes QR 3,000 is more than worth it ....

A fine of 3,000 QR. Whoopdeedoo. In the US both would have been arrested and charged and paid BIG time if not served jail time. You simply DON'T fight on an aircraft.

Don't you think at least she should have respected her age?

Even if Qatari lady attacked her, I think she should have complained to the Crew and then later could have taken a legal action against her.
