Mosque with 99 domes taking shape

The State Mosque, an ambitious project launched by Qatar in Al Khuwair, will be one of the largest in the world upon completion, Gulf Times has learnt.
The “Mosque of Domes”, as it is commonly called because of the 99 domes it contains, is large enough to accommodate up to 12,000 worshippers in the main prayer hall, in addition to 8,000 more in the open courtyard, a source associated with the project told Gulf Times.
“It is set to be one of the biggest (mosques) in the world; fifth biggest, I believe,” the source said.
The closely-guarded project is being built under the supervision of the Private Engineering Office at the Emiri Diwan, the source said, adding that the mosque would have traditional Qatari features incorporated into its design, “as opposed to a modern look”.
“It is strictly based on local roots and heritage. There was a Qebab mosque (Mosque of Domes) in Qatar. This project is essentially a larger version of that ancient structure,” the source said.
The State Mosque has 28 large domes, in addition to 71 smaller ones surrounding the open courtyard, totalling 99 in all. Although those involved in the project said they were not given the reason for those many domes, an Islamic scholar yesterday said the relationship could be to the 99 names of Allah.
“The sole minaret, which will also have an observatory overlooking the Gulf, is expected to be 65.55m tall including the crescent,” the source said.
Officials contacted by Gulf Times could not give a timeframe for the opening of the mosque.
Different people gave dates ranging from this November to one year from now.

People who doesn't donate from their pockets, talk too much if it comes to others. First look in your innerself, what you have done for humanity and how much you can do. Did you ever spend from your salary for the cause of poor if yes then to what extent, or you satisfied with it? My friends were talking too mcuh without realising how much Qatar is doing with regard to helping poor and needy. The place of worship is not meant for taking snaps nor its tourism spot. Its purely meant for worshipping. If you can build it then why not, what is wrong in that.

When it comes to building our own houses we try to spend as much as possible so that it looks good, don't you? I hope most of my friends will agree with me.

i agree, it is not mandatory to build 99 domes. i don't think it has 99 domes.as far as i know, it has 28 domes in the prayer hall, 65 in the courtyard area, 1 in the minaret plus 2 domes in the mihrab. so total of 96.

Prophet: fear Allah always.

Traveler: I want to be counted amongst Allah's favorites.

Prophet : recite quran every morning and evening.

Traveler: I want my heart to always be enlightened . ( roshan and munawer)

Prophet: never forget death

Traveler: I never want to be away from Allah's blessing.

Prophet: always treat fellow creatures well.

Traveler: I never want to be harmed by my enemies.

Prophet: always have faith in only Allah.

Traveler: I never want to be humiliated.

Prophet: be careful of your actions.

Traveler: I wish to live long.

Prophet: always do sile rahm. ( goodness towards blood relations)

Traveler: I want my sustenance to increase.

Prophet : always be in wudhoo.

Traveler: I wish to stay free of adhaab in the grave.

Prophet: always wear pure (paak) clothes.

Traveler: I never want to burn in hell.

Prophet : control your eyes and tongue.

Traveler: how do I get my sins forgiven.

Prophet: always ask forgiveness from Allah with a lot of humility.

Traveler: I want people to respect me always.

Prophet : never extend your hands of need at people.

Traveler: I want to always be honored.

Prophet: never humiliate or put down anyone.

Traveler: I don't want to be squeezed by fishare qabr.

( squeezing in the grave)

Prophet: recite sura e mulk often.

Traveler: I want my wealth to increase.

Prophet: recite sura e waqia every night.

Traveler: I want to be safe and at peace on day of judgement.

Atmosphere? What atmosphere it really creates ? a luxurious atmosphere ! concentration of the worshiper will be on the lights and fittings of the masjid. yes, we are humans !

It all depends on the situation and availability. If there is an air conditioned mosque near my home, i will surely go there. And it doesnt mean that i only pray in an air conditioned masjid !

Allah also said many things about lavish spending. dont forget that .

Well Tallg and Brit, building a mosque is not like building an iconic monument or building or at least I think so. What I meant is that the buidling(mosque) shouldnt become bigger than the religion itself or that is what I thought Islam preaches.

To be honest , I do not see the linkages here.

If the government can afford to build a mosque for its people and make it as comfortable as possible and a landmark in the process, then why shouldn't it.

Its like saying that a new monument shouldn't be built in India because there are so many living under the poverty line or that the British government should not hold a celebration parade when we have homeless on the streets.

Exactly rms! What is the purpose of a mosque? To pray right? How does it matter if it has 99 domes or one? what is the need to seat 20000 people at a time? Are there more than 20000 muslims living around there? Or is it becase they want 20000 people to come to the mosque? Why should 20000 muslims come to that mosque? Becasue it has 99 domes? Is it a holy place that they should visit? But this is like forcing people into going there just to SEE the mosque.

And ochiha, why somalia? they have so many problems in Qatar itself. Like build better accomadation and facilities for the labourers.

99 Doms pretains to the 99 names of Allah

I agree, in stead of building a mosque that could take the whole population of Qatar, they could have built schools in a poor country or help Somaila get some peace, or support the people in countires in which have starvation to grow their food.

I beleive that god may award people if they did that better than building a giant mosque in which may never be filled.

Brit- what is the pointof 99 domes on a mosque, what purpose does it serve? Isnt that what Islam tells u not to do? Make the mosque more important than God?

And abt starvation how many human rights problems do Qatar have? What abt the starving and homeless Labourers? I think the whole concept of building a mosque for showing off itself is against Islam.

DO you really think that this is constructed just for prayers and not for an 'attraction' ?

Then why should they waste so much of money creating 99 domes and interior stuffs an all ? They should have just created a simple mosque if it is just meant for prayers! If people really committed to worship, they even pray in hot sun. I'm sure everyone will atleast go once there for any prayer just to see the masjid.

It will be the same case of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque . People will go there with their camera and take pix and yalla go. i was been to Sheikh Zayed Mosque, and i saw people taking photographs like this that and all. i never feel like worshiping from there. It was just like we are in some other world with that ambiance.
