I have been offered a position in Doha
The position pays 29k a month and i would love to know what standard of life i could expect and if this is enough. I have a wife and 2 young kids ( 4 years & 18 months ) and a staffie, Im aware of the dog situation over there but any advice on cost of living would be appreciated. ps im moving from London in case that matters. Thanks in advance.
I will use my example. Putting in mind that Salary satisfaction depends on your personal goals and plans. Some people are happy with 10k or even 6k. 29 k may or may not be all that. This is how.
I have three kids and a nunny and this is my monthly expenditure without being so fanciful and my flat is so horrible.
fully furnished 3 bedroomed flat with ugly furniture-8000
groceries cost us abt 2,000 a month
water and elec abt 1,500
internet and phone bills abt 1,500
car loan + personal loan-4,000
club membership per annum -8,000.
Forgot to advise, be careful not to pay rent upfront coz landlords conive with agents to cheat new entrants.Check this site for similar compalints on rental fraud.
Your wife will be fine. Everyone here dresses as they wish apart from during ramadhan.
Good luck.
aL DOHAIS A VERY GOOD CONTERY AMONG ALL THE ARAB GULF CONTRIES, BUT BE SURE THAT IT IS GOOD OFFER INCLUDING ALL ALOWENCE LIKE HEALTH INSURANCE, COMPANEY CAR OR TRANSPORTATION AS TRANSPORTATION ID DOHA IS TOO MUCH EXPENSIVE
"Does your wife know you have to cover shoulders and knees whilst out in public?"
Hey me and you, On what basis you say this ? It is totally untrue.
Any one can enjoy free show by these so called self exposers by simply visiting a mall here. You don't need to pay for this.
Which company has offered the position if you dont mind me asking? You may want to get the kids on a school waiting list too, they are soooooo long!! There are some good schools you could try: DESS, Park House, Doha College, Doha Montosori (forgive if spelt wrong).
Its quite a hard country to get used to and your wife will probably feel it worse than you but it does pass. Does your wife know you have to cover shoulders and knees whilst out in public?
If you will get a housing allowance, school fees, medical and flight home every year then the package is brill, grab it while you can! :-)

you know your needs man... only cheap here is the cost of fuel.. the rest pretty much the same in your country.. good luck!
Its good life if u ready to adjust and bend down to rules and not argue about it since it would get you no where... n bear in mind Qatar is gettin no cheaper... so make ur decisions wisely or else as said Above.. TUFF CALL!!!
depends... does that include housing? schooling can also be expensive...
You'd probably need a three bedroom flat... a furnished one could cost ~12000
Schooling for two kids could cost up to 5000 a month...
and then there's till other expenses to consider... so its a tuff call...
Just a general rule when coming to another country, keep in mind what are they giving you apart from your salary i.e. what is your package....housing, tickets back home, transport etc.
u well live as King
azdan appatment offring fully furnashed flat for 3000 per month
Do you also get housing, education, car, medical allowances and annual tickets home? Often too they will give you some kind of relocation allowance to bring your stuff (and maybe your staffie??) as well.
29k is good - but depends on your job and the organization you'll be working for.
with 29k iam pretty sure, u'l live a healthy life with your family should you not spend thousands on drinks every month.
all the best.
