give me an advice...
hi guys,i need a little of your mind on this..
for the past four years i have been force to work in our company at least 11 hours a day and 7 days a week without overtime and much more worse is that its a broken schedule...
i said to myself that i will endure and just wait for 5 years after that i can try to find a new job, and so the time has come..
this 2010 i will be 5 years now from our company, i have endured the 11hours of work seven days a week and a monthly housing allowance of 200 Qatar riyals.. not to mention the transportation that i am providing myself...
before when i ask my colleagues about the timing and the days without a rest they said it was ok with them.... and later that i discover that these people i mean my co workers are just nothing in their country.. what im trying to say is like this... they take a man from their country tell them they will work here in qatar and all the expenses including the visa and the plane tickets, accommodation and transportation are free with a salary of qr1200.and they will just cut 500 qr a month with their salary for 2 years... for the visa and the other documents that will be precessed.
i mean for a guy who does nothing in their respective country and a guy ask you to work abroad and earn money.. why not right??... that answered my question when someone new came and if i ask if they knew how to speak English.. they tell they do not know english and even their national language, neither the Arabic language so ask myself how come this guy got hired from this company...
i of course on the other hand applied in the company with full colors and i prove to them that i was deserving for the job...
now my question is if i can somehow tell this to the human rights commission and if they would listen to me or entertain me that the company that i was working with was violating the qatar labour law .nd that they can help me regarding transferring of my work..or at least support me,
cause like i said im planning to find a work to another company.i am kinda tired of working all day and all night long so please if you have an advice for me on what sould i do..
please do..
thanks in advance..
It is obvious that your first action was a mistake. Never ever get into debt again, to go to an unknown job in this type of country!
As for your last paragraph, its the reality of most of us here in Qatar. Often uneducated and unqualified people are in leading positions pretending that they are bosses and those who actually do the job have no recognition!
Start acting now towards your goals and invest all your energies in achieving them! You do have competences that can bring you professional success, but perhaps not in this region where human abuses are the daily routine!
What are your qualifications and work experience and in which field?
Why wait five years when you knew from the beginning that you were being abused?! Your passivity and silence invites abuse!
its because unlike you i have invested and got debts just to work here.im sure im not the only one who came here with their money being an investment hoping they get a good future here. some peolple even sell their houses and cars just to have the money to come here and work, thats the case i got so rather than returning home with debts at my face i endured the time and the work
so that it'll be cleared one day...
It's hard to believe that you were working 11 hours a day during 5 years with not even one single day of rest!!!!!! You are probably exaggerating your case to seek sympathy.
if you dont believe it i don't give a rats ass, but just to make an example, just ask a grocery store near you and ask them how many hours do they work, if you think that's impossible to work 11hrs a day.did you know that even in ramadan and eid we work at least 9hors and on eid we have to work but they'd give 50qr extra...
and for your information i dont need any sympathy of others nor you, i was just asking an opinion, a view of my situation and what should i do.
Anyhow, you might have a problem and that is why you are here trying to ask for some advise (QL is not the best way, but here goes my views for your consideration).
Little assertiveness can be perceived from your attitude towards your situation and from what you wrote here. Why are you mixing others’ competences, with your company's hiring criteria and your victimized position? It implies immaturity and intrigue. This kind of mentality is never welcome in any organization.
i have a problem and that is i am sick and tired of doing all day and all night without proper compensation.
i have to wake up 8am in the morning and stop at 1 and be back at 4 until it reaches 10pm everyday...
i am complaining because i cant go around or be active in an organization or at least a club and even go to church because i have to be at work.
its not just about their criteria of hiring, because from what i know its illegal to sell the visa specially if the employee is working for you..
i am also telling why my colleagues couldn't complain or at least understand my sympathies because for them its a help from the employer. the least thing they wanna do is be a stubborn staff to him thats why i said i on the other hand did applied for them with my degree and i know to do my job because with the others they teach them, the guy is a complete zero when they came here..
If you have a problem, be specific and make sure that you focus on yourself. Avoid involving others, pin pointing fingers and interfere is areas where you have no say or control.
One can tell if an individual is focused on a goal and if strives or not to achieve it. You failed to demonstrate these characteristics and that is why abusers employers take advantage of people like you.
if you re-read my post you'll see that i am not naming names nor nationalities,i think you are way too ahead to
criticize and conclude this.to say i am not working hard and have not been is i think inhuman on your side.let me ask you this what would you feel if you are bitching around by someone you know is not even an educated person
and does not even know of what is he doing.can say or even write english, not even speak their national language.and that you know you are more capable enough to his place but they didn't because you are not the same as their nationality..and that they chose to pick the uneducated guy rather than you??.. tell me what you'll do?..
ask for NOC (u have the right to have the NOC due to abuse made by the company), find another job, resign, go back home, come back to work for another company..then start fresh.. :)
temper is something u cant get rid of... by loosing it...
You can file a case with the labour court...and I have learnt from another such person that they do look into the cases and try to give Justice.
You could even claim the QR 500 cut from your salary (as you are not getting the salary promised) food and stay are the company's expense not your.
You could even get a release through the court and apply for another job. But if the job is "Labour" then most of the other companies also work similarly.
Its amazing how you worked for 1825 days without break ...even if you took your annual leave it would be 150 days less....
One thing that stands out are that you are a goal oriented person and can achieve any goal you set. You have a lot of perseverance, dedication & loyalty sadly you are wrongly employed....but you can change it.....go to the Labour Court opp Munthaza Petrol Station on C-Ring Road....you could do that by saying (at your office) you are going to the doctor as you are not well...
Why wait five years when you knew from the beginning that you were being abused?! Your passivity and silence invites abuse!

It’s not too late for a change:
Be assertive, focused and determined in achieving your objectives. Show some character and don’t always be passive and submissive!
Start sourcing for another job and when it’s aligned, resign!
Oh gosh... you have endured long! Ask if your company provides NOC. If not, apply for a job in another country before resigning. I dont think the labor dept or whoever is responsible for these issues can help. They might just cancel your visa and send you home for your concerns. Good luck :)
...listen to the sound of silence....
Find another work 1st then resign , It is not easy to find another jop .
Resign and go back home for a few days then look for jobs elsewhere. Qatar is not the only place to earn money. Staying here and trying to get out is not worth it.
