Shed Illusions, AL.

While waiting for some people to get their act together - happened to read this during lunch break and thought it is great that the Emir is man enough to stand up for truth. Boldness and honesty is so rare in world leaders...Unity is so important. "United we stand, divided, we fall" - AL (and others too) should put aside their own personal interests and unite to make a positive change for the greater good.

DOHA: Qatar yesterday called for reforming the Arab League with the Emir, H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, stunning the Arab world with his bold and honest address at the Arab Summit in Libya in which he admitted that joint Arab action to tackle the issues and challenges facing the bloc was a mirage.
... “We cannot deceive ourselves and our people…or stand helpless in front of history,” he said as a matter of fact, stressing that joint Arab action on issues and challenges facing the Arab world was facing a real crisis.
...The situation being what it is, no present or future Arab Summit can succeed unless we look the reality in the face and act with fortitude. “We are left with two options now. We either leave our joint action to its own fate or stand united and review the goals and objectives of the Arab League,” the Emir said.
...The Emir hinted that reforming the Arab League was, thus, the need of the hour. “We cannot pass on the responsibility to others. We cannot blame others and we cannot blame the circumstances either, because it is the duty of the people to rise above circumstances, something which has not been possible for us so far.”
Hmmm.. interesting.
And I found this on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pan-Arabism
"Pan-Arabism has tended to be sometimes near secular (in theory) and often based on socialist principles, and has strongly opposed Western political involvement in the Middle East. It also sought to improve security of states from outside forces by forming alliances and, to a lesser extent, economic cooperation."
Then you have a point there. "Pan-Arabism and Islam are not compatible".
Pan Arabism and Islam are not compatible, this is what I meant.
Arab problems are not just arab problems, but the problem of the entire ummah, and the problems of muslims elsewhere are similarly problems of the entire ummah.
united we(The muslim ummah) stands and divided we(dividing ourself's based on races)fall.
We are all responsible for each other, Arab or not.

What do you mean "incorrect approach"?
HH the Emir was asking all Arabs to unite ie not abdicate responsibility and play the blame game but to look forward in the same direction so that the problems can be overcome.
Incorrect approach. Sorry to say, but it sure is. As long as the Arabs or any other part of the Muslim ummah feels seperate from the others, our problems WILL necessarily multiply
