my dilemma with Kharama !? (smile)

yes, it is me again and yes this is a real story ,.... for all those how only want to leave sarcastic remarks or make fun please proceed to the next forum topic , thank you !
I have a problem with Kharama, my electrical bill is untypical high .So I went to Kharama yesterday , trying to tell them , that there is NO WAY I have used in one months about 4700 clicks electricity in a winter month , where all the AC 's are turned off !
So I am trying to tell the guy , that we use about 45000 clicks a year, here it is all of a sudden 30000 in only 5 months in the winter !?
Very unlikely for my household , since we didn't' change anything , as in getting more electrical appliance !
The guy keeps telling me it is right, they didn't come read the meter for 5 months so it turned out high, blah , blah , blah....
and I am , BUT, it is to high for the winter time.
So I ask , can you send somebody to check it out, if something is not working right .... maybe in my house or so ?!
He says , no it is right!
hmmmm, so how do I know if the meter reads right, do they even calibrate the meters here?
is something broken ?
and then typical attitude , I get here is like :
don't care, don't know, don't want to know.
go away.
so all I can do is pay 3900 QAR for the bill, before they turn of the power .
Because I have no choice and nobody cares to help or look into it and why should they care. I have no choice I need kharama if I want water and electricity !?

HL you dont know reality. Sometimes it so happens that Kahramaa keeps sending an average monthly bill instead of the actual bill. One the meter reader comes and checks the reading and finds a difference, it comes in the next bill.
Sometimes this also happens because of faulty meters as well.
Generally they will send someone to inspect the meter and replace so if required. If there is a fault with the meter then the extra amount will be adjusted in the future bills.
I had a similar problem several years ago. I went and looked at my meter and it was spinning way too fast so I went to my panel box and flipped off the breakers one by one checking the meter in between, finally flipped a breaker and like a car slamming on its breaks the meter stopped spinning. Then I went and unplugged everything on that circuit turned it back on and plugged things in one by one. Turns out I had a slight ground on my stove which wasn't enough to trip the breaker (didn't have a GFCI) but enough to burn up my bill.
LOL smoke..... I have to cook now for my family...... in my black stinky kitchen .... trying not to run up the electrical bill and making Schnitzel ..... you guys , thank you for the help and remarks ..... have a nice day :)

Facts people cry foul when electicity bill comes. There are many high power consuming appliances like microwave, water heater, AC, washing machines if using hot water wash etc and also lot of water is used in flushing / washing machine.
Not just make Kahramaa as scapegoat.

Possible causes; 1)somthing problem with your electric meter(Check your meter reading everyday same time for few days and find out daily consumtion and compare it with bill 2)too much water consumption-check for any leakage

SomweND middle , if it was that easy to change I would... the house is a house give to us , by my husbands job , to change houses you will have to go to the office and make a complaint , which we did about 6 month ago.....guess what nobody cares .... first they want to give us less then we have now ......you have to come back and remind them , that they was suppose to get as a new house and blah , blah blah.... they say nothing is for rent in that size now ..... come back... come back .. come back....guess what still coming back - no house ....

You don't know Umm Sulayum..and to assume her to be a miser based on her posts is very unfair and wrong! She's certainly not. And what she's pointing out a is a dilemma many residents of Qatar who pay electricity and water bills are facing today(Which is why many people prefer to reside in houses where the rent is w/e included) And just like some folks don't understand what she's going through there are some of us who know what its like. and while I am most certainly not a miser myself I don't fancy being take for a ride and paying more than my dues either!
OH yeah s-isale ,.... let me tell you about our landlord.... I am not making this stuff up , wa allahi ..... our kitchen had a fire about last month (do to a fuse not working) ... so the light burned and now my with kitchen is black ... we told the landlord or more like his little Indian worker guy ( I think the driver) and he was like the landlord is not here, .... and something like ..... why don't you turn of the light ... something stupid like this.... up to this day , they cleaned up half the kitchen and never came back to clean the rest ....
It looks horrible .... and it stinks ... and nobody cares , you know why, because everything is just fine in their house.... so not their problem .......
How about you take a bucket of Cold water and a electric cable along with you to Kahramaa office and throw the water on the officers face in the front desk and switch the electricity ON....:)

How about the water heaters? I'm sure in the cold months you'd need more of hot water than AC's and that consumes a lot of electricity right?

what were the readings for the past 6 months. compare that with the current reading.
It must have been adjusted for this month.
britexpat NO I am not renting a car, BUT do you want to hear the story , how our new cars is been broken over and over again and how the car company ( I will not say the name here ) is not that helpful and they only milking us for money , repair , after repair..... oh my gosh , long story, maybe we have to site down for a coffee for that one :((((

I agree the whole kahrma billing system can be very questionable to say the least..what with bills shooting up for no explainable reason. and they are always right! Subhanallah..its a real fitna alright considering the bills are in thousands! best thing to do is try what plushed has advised..Barakhallah feekum. Hemlata, I got your point , BUT in my case..... like I already have said , I have changed NOTHING , didn't get anymore electrical appliance , AC's been turned of since last month ..... and I have been in this every same house since 2008 and I NEVER used 4700 clicks for electricity in a winter month , it would be more like 2500- 3000 for my household .... the price is irrelevant in this argument!!!
Is there a electrician in the forum here ... anybody please.... is it possible that the meter is reading wrong, going to fast , of calibration maybe..... is it possible that something in my house is malfunctioning !!???? would that explain the unlikely high usage of electricity in my house ????
simply put, the problem really is their meter reading, the guys supposed to do that are lazy asses!!
they are taking advantage of u... better report/complain to their main office asap....
mention also to them the difference of Germany and Doha with regards to Elec & Water services... so that they can adopt it also here... LOLs

Last 5 months were not all winter
Kahramaa charges 0.08 QR / Kw for Electricity and 5.00 QR for water as I checked my bill.
Electricity bill should be 2400 QR = 480 QR / month and remaining is for water.
Bill is quite reasonable

i think the problem is with there guys doing the meter reading, most of the time they don't do their job, i had that some problem before, same response NO PROBLEM. what to do yani?!?!

I checked the water meter, that is right , no problem there.....
I don't know , what it is and how come it turned out so high, with everything the same in my house ..... so I am like the meter must be broken , running to fast or somebody is stealing my electricity !!!!!!
maybe your water consumption was up for the month of December, could be one cause.
so it was like you were talking to a voice-prompt machine lol! coz he can't explain it further that's why he said no problem over and over again :)

BUT I know from previous bills that I only use about 2500 - 3000 clicks in a winter months ...... and NOW in DEC. , it says something like 4700 clicks .....it is winter, all my AC's are off, there is NO WAY I have used 4700 clicks right now .... so the reading on the meter is right ( ironically) , but it is unlikely for my household..... it is almost like somebody is using my electricity .... and all I wanted to know is , can somebody please come and look /check my house if something is not working right , that would use up soooooooo much electricity , all of a sudden !!!?????
was the guy you talking to seemed like he understood what you were telling him? coz that is one of the common problems in dealing with problems regarding kahramaa bill. you talk to someone there and all they say is "no problem" when there is really a problem.
have you tried talking to other people there instead of that guy you first talked to?
YOU CHACK READING IN YOUR ELECTRIC METER AND THE BILL IF THEY ARE SAME SO NO DOUT IF SOMETHING IS WRONG TAKE A PICTURE FROM YOUR MO BAIL AND SHOW THEM OTHER WISE MAKE COMPLAIN YOUR BILL IS COMING HIGHER AND HIGHER THATS ALL .....................

take a picture of your meter and show it to Kahramaa, go to the main branch if needed (Hilal).
Had this problem just last month.. had to pay 6700Qr as compared to 350Qr (average) monthly bills. turned out its cuz of water consumption..
they didnt made the reading until after 2 years. and said WE should request THEM to make the reading every month! how cool is that? *sigh*

LOOK, look.... this is not right . ... guess what ,he was like ..... it is right , we raised the price of electricity since 2008 ..... ok, I am like: NO i am not talking about the price here, I am talking about the usage , it is not right.... so he went on , telling me the price is higher , blah, blah, blah, what a no brainer ..... anyways , I have tried my best , with evidence and good words.... but he don't care, don't know , don't want to know ..........
Do you have the meter reading for previous bill?, write down the reading for last bill and the present meter reading. ask them to compare...
i think ur neighbors are "borrowing " your electricity, and testing your generosity. ;)

Dont you have any previous bills that you paid, you can check the meter reading yourself to see if there's anything wrong with it. Take the new readings today and compare it with the bill you got.
