US official pats Qatar over Darfur peace
Doha: US Special Envoy to Sudan Preston Lehman has praised the efforts of Qatar to achieve peace in Darfur, lauding the role of the Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and the Qatari government in hosting the expanded stakeholders conference
on Darfur.
In an interview with Arabic daily Al-Sharq, published yesterday, Lehman described Qatar’s efforts over the past two years as ‘important’ saying they merit appreciation and contribute to the attainment of peace in
the region. . .
whoever heard of Qatar when I came here in 1994? Now the profile of Qatar is raised high in the world. I'll bet more people know who is the Qatar Emir and PM than know who the Australian or New Zealand Prime Ministers! This is an example of a small country punching above it's weight in the wider world. Qatar has changed and is influencing change in the wider MENA area by it's example and skillful diplomacy!
Of course we can disagree in individual cases but Qatar as an agent for good is a shining beacon in a darkening world!
I with frenchieman on this. This IS good news and good to see Qatar using its diplomatic influence for a positive result in the region.
Why are YOU being so negative observer?
How is this negative? This is great news for the Sudan, and I am glad that the world is recognizing Qatar's role in all this. About time I say.
