Hi all! did not have a decent job since I lost my job due to the global crisis about 2 years ago. I now got a job in Doha and about to signed a contract with an offer of QR 3000 + life insurence, accommodation and a return ticket every year. I will leave behind wife and 2 kids. I am given 3 days to think about it and sign. Could you please be so kind as to tell me if this is a faire deal & what is the accommodation offered by employers like? would I be able to survive and send money back to look after my family? I am 90% ready to sign because I am unemplyed at the moment. I thank you in advance for your help and advice. ( I am coming from South Africa and will be working in a hotel as a head barman )

It's better than having nothing back home. Take it, and from there on you move forward. GBU!

thank you so much for a quick response. You're right, the situation back in SA is not good at the moment. I don't feel comfortable to discuss salary with the future employer at the moment considering the number of people who attended the interviews, I really think that they (employer) had enough talented and experienced people  to pick and choose from. So I will first take the opportunity since this will give me a good start for now...  I appreciate your time

From my personal experience that's not so bad at all since the salary will not be distributed to all the living expenses like housing, food, transport, clothings, utilities etc. as these will be covered by the hotel. Working in a hotel has its perks.  If you're staying in the staff accommodation, the hotel shuttle bus will transport you to work and back. As head barman you'll work for the Food & Beverage department, nevertheless food would likely be provided. You also get free uniform and laundry, and if you fall under supervisor category personal laundry is covered as well for a maximum QR200. This isn't to mention that the staff accommodation may have its own recreational facilities like gym, cable television and internet. The yearly ticket & life insurance sound good. Considering that you have been jobless and the current global crisis, thank God for your blessing and good luck!

I thought someone from SA would need much more than that...

Fellow South African, QR 3,000 is nothing here- I would ask for at least 4K. But considering you're back in SA, you won't find anything there so I suggest you take the opportunity.
