Hello

I am considering a job position in Doha.

The package includes:

- basic salary of QAR 20,000/month

- housing allowance of QAR 8,000/month

- transportation fee of QAR 1,200 /month.

I am single and have 5 years of experience.

Do you think I should accept?

What is the cost of living there? Will I be able to save some money?

Would I be in position to lease a car for QAR 1,200/mnth

Thks,

Yes you could get a 1 bedroom apartment for much lesser than 8K/ month and use the rest on the car, but 1 bedroom apartments are not easy to come by. Also, buy a car rather than lease one. You don't have to make down payments on cars no more. Cost of living depends on your lifestyle, but I'd think about QAR 1500-2000 on your groceries and then approx QAR 150-200 on dining out at a decent resto once a week.If you're into drinking/ clubbing, a LOT more will be spent ;-)

Ok Colt45, so you think I can rent an appartment for less than qar 8,000 ? and then I can use the remaining for a car ?

What about the cost of living (food in particular?). I am trying to figure out of much of that I could save!

thks

well, if you're asking about the transportation allowance per se, I'd say it's a bit low when you compare it to the decent housing allowance you're being offered.I'd say QAR 1500 - 2000 is what you need to try and pitch for, because a decent reliable car will costs you around that much.

If it is more than what you are currently making - why not. Rental of a vehicle will be minimum QAR 1,500/month though - however you can purchase a car with a bank loan and the monthly instalment could be anywhere above QAR 600/month above (depending on the tenure of the loan and the loan taken - again dependent on the vehicle)
