Why is it Really hard to get a Job here in Qatar specially when you have no experience :( and you are a "Fresher" :[

b/cos most of the companies here are not ready to train employee while carrying out critical project in a very strict law country like Qatar when it comes to their infrastructural development!so even if u have Master's or Phd. as long as u lack that working experience ur likely to be employed as ceremonial staff---------- which means, they will only use ur academic qualification to obtain good project.

Its not true. Everyone has any type of experience more or less. If he gets any chance he can do more and collect experience. Sometimes more experience is dangerous to work.

If the freshers are ready to work with a small salary, they will get training and a job.

Or

If their salary expectation is above what they deserved, then it is difficult to get a job.(Most of them thinking like this).

Usually company looks for experienced peoples as the have to put lesser effort for training.

when there is a little demand and more supply then

there will be more compitation and lesser salaries...

but keep searching as some companies look for freshers.

First of all the availability of jobs is reserved for the locals. They are the priority. This is their own country. If ever there are vacancies a lot of foreigners are also looking for jobs just like you. You need a reference to recommend you in any job position that suits your qualifications.

Tough situation really. However, there are factors why its hard to get a job.

Is it because your expectations are too high for your experience or what you have to offer. Or it is because your experience are still not enough as per the employers expectations.

Either way, you should meet in between.

Happy job hunting!

Many companies don't want to invest time & money in a person who don't know anything about the job and to be an overhead for the company, so companies prefer people with experience eventhough they are being paid more...

I can understand your frustration. This problem is not specific in Qatar alone. There are several people around the world in a similar situation as yours. Everyone has the same question(in frustration) as you have raised.

I don't have a specific answer and I may be wrong, but,in my humble opinion,it is more of a demand and supply. If you were 1 among the 20,000 odd apples in the (job)market and if I were running a company, what steps will you take so that I can choose you among the other apples (assuming you all have the same qualifications).

Arm yourself with some exclusive qualification which a potential employer will take note of. Be in the hunt.

The other thought that you may ask to yourself now(if you are young enough and willing to take some extra risk): Identify a growth area/prospect and try to experiment with your own business. Who knows, you might another Mark Zuckerberg in the future.

Cheer up. Never give up.

This is because:

1. openings for fresh grads are now being given preference to Qatari nationals as part of the Qatar Nationalisation Scheme. Even experienced professionals have their job at risk if they are foreign nationals. I just met someone the other day who was in his job as head of IT in a huge gas company and was told he had to leave after 11 years of service. He is now somewhere else.

2. There is no centrally organised recruitment agent or agents who can match up skilled foreign graduates into jobs because of 1. Therefore it is a free for all - first come first served.

3. People who know people get jobs in qatar, so if you see a job online, then try and contact someone at the place and arrange an informal chat with them to at least get your name with them.

4. Qatar wants experienced professionals who have western experience in all the big multinationals.

5. the qatarisation scheme means that 25% of all companies above a certain size have to have qatari national citizens as employees otherwise they face penalties.

Go figure!

Your best bet is to try Dubai as there are more openings for foreigners. Or, you could try a european country to gain experience somewhere in your field.

Hope that helped!

Contacts is one of the important thing for someone needs to get a job, later comes the GCC experience. Few companies look for the experience which you have outside GCC, rest they concentrate only on GCC Experience.

This is what I noticed while I was hunting for a job.

No matter how much ever you applied through online portals, etc... its really tough to get in. If there are any to recommend you, I mean a contact in the field where you are searching a job, then it becomes an easy task...

All the best if in case you are hunting for a job...

There are large amount of people coming in Qatar lately and most of the companies here are looking for experienced employee in order not to loose time on training and stuff. Some of the companies are offering on job training here, it will last for months but it's quite worth it, to have some experience on your field.

There are 2 reasons.

1. Freshers wants high salary without experience. Freshers who don't have any experience, must have some training. You don't have any experience but do you have any training related to the applied field?????????

2.Second reason, Just because you have not send your cv to me, because few days ago only I have posted some jobs in Qatar Living. May be you are waiting the answer for question, so that you did not see my post. Still one opportunity is there, one of my friend's company Gulf Stone, it's a contracting company, is looking for a Office Secretary. If you send your cv to me i will forward to him.
