Honda showroom in Qatar shut down for cheating customers

In less than three weeks, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce has shut down the showroom of yet another major foreign car dealer here for taking customers for a ride.

The main showroom of Domasco Honda, local dealers of Japanese Honda cars, was ordered shut for a month for violating the consumer protection law.

In a statement, the Ministry said surprise raids on the dealer's outlets revealed that they were repairing and repainting damaged cars and passing them off as new to customers.

The Ministry said its inspectors have found many such cars in the company's showrooms after customer complaints. As punitive action, the ministry said, it has shut down the agency's main showroom for a month.

The ministry put up closure notices at the entrances of the showroom. The notices have been printed and pasted at the expense of the company.

More than two weeks ago, the ministry also shut down the main showrooms of Nissan and Dodge following similar complaints.

People can register complaints about suspected breach of the provisions of the consumer protection law by calling 8005000 or by sending an email to [email protected]  or report their observations, said the ministry. [The Peninsula]

Good question. After buying a new car let the customer pay another 250 QR in German auto computer center for a test report.

Those who had purchase such car should come with the FAHAS report and demand for the full refund by giving same vehicle to them as part of punishment.

Those cars are damaging during the shipment from factory to showroom and the agents getting price discounts from the manufacturer or insurance claim. They suppose to sell those cars as "Seconds" but here they are selling as brand new through the main showrooms. This is the cheating and they should be punished for the same .

Looks like Customer satisfaction is the last thing in the strategy for most companies in Qatar.

Penalising the dealer will not alter the systems efficiently, as all the employees will enjoy a paid holiday and will resort to the same again whenever possible. A thorough investigation has to be done whether it was initiated by the policies itself or any management employee had planned it in an organised way to swindle huge amounts of money and make it big. Such persons should be referred to the prosecution and effective penalties should be laid on them and even deported so as not to repeat such malpractices thereby ruining the reputation of the nation.
