Urdu forum pays tributes to poet
Expatriate literary forum Majlis Froghe Urdu Adab Qatar organised a programme in memory of noted Pakistani poet Azm Behzad who died of heart attack in Karachi on March 4.
Behzad, one of the co-ordinators of the Majlis in Pakistan, was a keen participant in the forum’s programmes and also conducted mushairas (poetry sessions) for the last four years.
Visiting Pakistani columnist, poet and scholar Ata ul Haq Qasmi and Syed Fahimuddin Hashmi, Zawwar Hussain Zair, Aziz Nabeel, Ijaz Haider, Shafiq Akhtar and Ashfaq Qalaque paid tributes to the literary services of Behzad.
Mohamed Atiq, chairman of the board of patrons of the Majlis, recalled his association with Behzad and lauded his contributions towards the promotion of Urdu language and poetry.
Atiq said after Malik Museeb-ur-Rehman, Behzad’s death was the second biggest loss for the organisation.
Behzad was not only a popular poet among his contemporaries but also a great human being, Atiq said. “He had a unique style of reciting poetry,” he added.
Radio Qatar Urdu Service producer and announcer Hafiz Obaid Tahir led the prayers.
