QAWS - Dogs in locked cars!
I posted something like this last year, but I cannot find the thread.
When I started this post, I was recalling comments from the previous thread, where people were commenting on why I would post something so obvious, and of course the people that respond with "forget dying dogs, what about dying people in africa".
I would request that you refrain from answering anything other than with posts relating directly to this topic.
DOG OWNERS PLEASE NOTE:
Summer is on its way, and QAWS would like to remind you that a dog left in a locked car, with no A/C will be dead within 20 - 30 min.
Last week Saturday, while at a fundraising function, a customer at our QAWS stand was buying some toys for her dog. In passing conversation she remembered that her dog had be locked in her car for 3 hours. I was totally horrified, and expressed my distress. Thanks goodness this story doesn't have a bad ending. When we approached the car, I noticed that the window had been opened about half an inch. The little dog, which looked like a Toy Pomeranian, was scrunched up under the dashboard on the drivers side, trying to find shade, as the car was parked in the hot sun. The temp was about 30 degrees outside, and inside probably about 4 degrees more.
Being a Toy Pom, it has a lot of hair, so it was extremely hot and was panting furiously. Explaining to the family that a dog will die in such conditions, the husband switched on the car and the A/C.
While this might seem like a good solution, its not ideal. The ideal would be, that in summer, you DO NOT leave animals unattended even for 1 minute in a car, even with A/C running, as there have been cases, that people have returned to their car after a short time and the A/C has stopped functioning, and the car has heated, causing the death of the animal inside.
So please, please people, if you must transport your animals with you, please make sure that your A/C is in good working order, and that you check on the pet every few minutes. Better yet, leave your animals at home when going shopping or visiting for long periods of time.
Thank you
QAWS
