How far would you go to protect Qatar’s environment?
Protecting and conserving the environment is a duty upon everyone. Whether we live in our country or not, shouldn’t we all endeavor to conserve energy, reduce water and electricity usage and above all, avoid polluting the environment?
Keeping these questions in mind, Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI) along with the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) has come up with 3 surveys where it asks all the residents and citizens of the country their opinion about various environmental issues.
These surveys would without a shadow of doubt, help the institute to have a better understanding on the public’s awareness about environmental concerns. Also, this would help certain conservation programmes to run more effectively.
Out of QEERI’s 3 surveys, one has already been completed. Survey 1 addresses electricity and water issues, while the 2nd survey deals with climate change.
In fact, it has been found in a previous poll that 83% of the public said that they were concerned about global warming and its effects.
The 3rd survey that addresses urbanization, food wastage and transportation is expected to be released on the first week of May.
The result of all the three surveys will be published as a joint QEERI and MDPS report.
If you are older than 17 years old, you could take part in the survey too. To join the survey and answer some questions for the benefit of your environment, go here.

True: Many take the view that countries like India, USA, Russia and China are the real culprits , since their industries cause thousands times more damage than me with my energy saving light bulb and water meter :O)
Brity, I agree with you, but there are so many people I see that take things for granted and waste a lot. Especially, when some people don't pay for electricity and water. I am sure they say, "Yes, I am concerned about our climate...but I need to wash my cars and also have the AC and lights on everyday, even when I am not at home!"
As a guest in this country I don't leave any trash, but my host is doing the opposite.
My (local) neighbor is an adult and has his 5 cars washed daily in his yard.
zackm: We are all adults of this world.. Yes, the government should encourage, but we as indivisuals should also make an effort.
83% are concerned about global warming and its effects. Yet I see so much wastage in this country, my local neighbors wash 7 of their SUVs everyday. Lights are on 24/7. So much garbage everywhere, no recycling initiatives. Only recycle initiatives I have seen was at the airport. But even those bins were not sorted, papers and tin cans were toss the same way as normal garbage bcoz the cleaners didn't want to bother or don't know the differences on the recycle bins. If everyone here is so concerned about our environment, what initiatives has the government taken or even the residents.
