Rooney To Miss Croatia Game
England's chances of success against Croatia in the upcoming Euro 2008 qualifier have taken a significant dent following an injury to Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney...
zoom - galleria England coach Steve McClaren has spoken of his disappointment after discovering that Wayne Rooney's injury will prevent his taking part in the upcoming Euro 2008 qualifier against Croatia.
He told Sky Sports, "It is hugely disappointing for us and him.
"Given the form he has been in and the contribution he has made to England over the last two games means it is a blow.
"But we have to deal with it, like we have dealt with situations like these before.
"It is an opportunity for someone else to come and do a job."
Rooney has hit two goals for England so far this season, along with a further seven for Manchester United in various competitions.
What's more, his fine work for the Red Devils landed him the Premiership Player of the Month award in October.
However, he won't be able to repeat that feat in November, with a Manchester United spokesperson saying, "Wayne Rooney picked up an ankle injury in training and will be out for about four weeks."
That lengthy spell of absence will see him miss four Premiership encounters, not to mention the Champions League tie with Sporting Lisbon at Old Traffod.
However, he may be able to make a comeback in the Eternal City to face Roma on December 12th.
Rooney, 22, already has 40 caps for his country
