However, following the 2008 European Championships in Austria and Switzerland, van der Sar revealed he will finally call it a day with the Dutch national side.
Speaking to Netherlands station Radio 538, van der Sar said: "I will stop with with the Oranje after Euro 2008. The time has come."
The 6”5 keeper turned 37 years old today and although he recently mentioned how the young starts at United are keeping him young, it seems that the traveling and constant playing between club and country have finally caught up with him.
Edwin van der Sar currently holds the all-time appearance record for the Dutch with a massive 121 international caps.
Holland are yet to seal their berth at next summer's finals in Austria and Switzerland, but are expected to do so as they only need a victory from either of their remaining qualifiers against Luxembourg and Belarus.
