The flying excitement was palpable at the Open Fly-in Day at Al Khor Airfield on Saturday as visitors walked from one plane to another through the lineup of more than a dozen of local and visiting privately owned aircraft.
The owners were just too eager to let visitors, especially children to hop onboard their planes and have their pictures taken. However, not only pilots on board their own planes were taking part in the event. Visitors were also given plenty of opportunities to fill the thrills and take flights in dedicated aircraft around the Al Khor area.
Besides Lakhwya, trainee-pilots from the Qatar Aeronautical College were also participating in the event and among them were Adeline Zoghby, a female trainee pilot at the college. Asked how difficult it was for a female to train in a male-dominated profession, Zoghby said: “It is a very good opportunity to show that female can be as good pilots as their male counterparts.”
“It can be a little harder for female trainees because we have to be training with men all the time and you have to prove yourself that you are capable,” said Zoghby who started training recently and has already hit 150 hours of flying.
