August opening for Qatar aqua park

Qatar’s first aqua park, a 100,000sqm leisure and entertainment complex off the Salwa Road, will have a soft opening for public in the first week of August, Gulf Times has learnt.

“The soft opening will allow the public to start using the various rides and facilities at the world-class aqua park in August. An official opening will be held during the Eid-ul-Fitr,” an official of the developer, Hala Group Enterprises, said.

Located 16km from the Industrial Area roundabout on the Salwa Road, the water park’s first phase was earlier scheduled to open in April.

“The park is ready and testing and commissioning of the rides have been completed. The delay in opening is due to issues beyond our control, such as getting electricity connection,” the official said.

“Pre-opening response from the public had been immense and we were also forced to add more wet slides and kiosks as well as a boomerango (a tube ride where people accelerate down a steep chute before travelling high up the opposite wall, experiencing momentary weightlessness, before sliding back down up and over a hump and finishing into a splash pool),” the official added.

The park, concept and construction of which is being provided by Cyprus-based Aqua Masters, features a giant “wave pool”, a “lazy river”, an “activity pool”, a multiple slides complex, a family pool, an exotic village and a “dry” corner in the first phase.

The first phase covers an area of 50,000sqm. Its parking area can accommodate 400 cars.
In later phases, more rides and features such as go-carts will be included.

A 1,500sqm pool area will serve children of 1-10 years. Water slides range from 14m to 20m in height and include four main slides.

“Services include toilets, changing rooms, restaurants, a coffee shop, a sports court with a capacity of 3,000 visitors. Close to 700 visitors are expected a day in the first six months of the opening,” the official said.
Adjacent to the aqua park will be a 300,000sqm resort as well as a shopping complex, currently under construction and expected to be completed in June 2011.

The developer signed an agreement with Kuwait-based Al Jazeera Entertainment Enterprises Company last December to manage the park for five years.
Upon opening, the business hours of the park will be 10am–10pm seven days a week. Fridays will be earmarked for families. There will also be a ladies’ day on Tuesdays.

Went over the weekend, and found the place.

It is exit #29 on Salwa. Go over the flyover and thru the round-a-bout and then turn left. Dont get back on the highway, it is the service road beside the Hwy.

The entrance to the park was under contruction, so we couldnt find a way in, but we thought it might be possible to use an entrance near the Military entrance, as we could see cars parked at the aquapark.

I was there yesterday just to have a look but it is still closed and place seems to be very under construction. It is wasting time to go there now since there is nothing to see. Park is hidden behind trees nearby Salwa Road.

betaneko just keep driving down Salwa road towards industrial area and keep on driving till you see it on the left. It's a long way out.

World class???

What's next?calling it the largest in the middle east?

Why do local media insist in making us subject for mockery ?

The place is just a privately owned small water theme park with only three main attraction as announced by its owner.

City Center and the water park are both places to go for fun on the weekends. And both will have, arguably flexible rules regarding family days. That is how they are related.

By Nic• 4 Jul 2010 14:12

How about Labor Day? Friday is the only day off for these poor labors and they are banned from all public venues on this day?

don't go off-topic. The post says clearly that there is a family day, a ladies day, and the rest are open 4 all which sounds fair. There is a space for 1-10 yrs old kids, but it ddnt say the whole park for kids!!

The same thing happens with "Ladies and Couples Night" at the Irish. It becomes a hassle trying to get all your friends through the door only to enter and find it's a sausage-fest inside!

lol, epicurean are you new on Qatar or QL ? Search for hundreds of previous threads on Family Day. It only applies to the poor Asians. Europeans and Arab Bachelors are allowed. The definition of Family has been re-written.

shyam4fun, I don't know if that's what you meant to come across as, but most people don't usually just go to the park for eyeballing the opposite sex. That mentality is precisely the only justification they have for keeping these family days....

I don't mind them keeping family days or ladies only days as long as it's not on a frigging Friday or Saturday. It should be generally off-peak timings like at the Qatar Bowling Center.

By somwerNdmiddle• 4 Jul 2010 13:52

what exactly do you mean shyam4fun?

if they say that its only for families....

today is ladies day....

today is gents day....

etc etc...

then only families will visit that park.....

if men and women are allowed together then only its fun...

i have visited lots of water parks. they allow anyone who buy the ticket....

i think it must b open 4 all...

sometimes i think that others dont consider me as a human when the security people say "sorry sir today is family day"

every one is human and have equal right?

bcoz most people are attracted towards opposite sex...

Far away from the coast and beaches, in the middle of the dusty desert, isolated from any trace of civilization, under a killer sun with temperatures approaching 50C, just before Ramadan, way to go!
