Thanks Iain, I went there this past weekend to Ras Rakken and walked accross. deepest water I found was about 2' maybe. (low tide) saw a flock of 30 or so flamingos. also saw a guy drive from the island pulling a camping trailor with a tv dish. go figure. there is also a well worn suv trail and plenty of trash. Is there anywhere in qatar that you can go camping and not be woried about getting ran over in your sleep by the dune bashers and 4X4's?
Leave it near the abandoned house. Leave you mobile number clearly displayed. How many car thefts have you heard of? especially in that remote location.
Although a friend was telling me of an incident in Qatar in the 60's. He got his land rover stuck and had to abandon it (near Al-Khor) and when he returned the next morning the accesible wheeels / battery had been stolen..... so beware the nomad....
I know the island in the very north of Qatar as Ras Rakkan. Go up shamal road turn right at last RA go straight at next RA onto dirt track - old abandoned house sand coloured about 1km away on the beach directly over the water is Ras Rakkan - low tide crossing is possible but it is a few kilometers walk... good luck
Afaque...I'm hoping to go this Saturday morning. We could go together as my family won't be coming. I'm waitint to hear from a friend about whether he's coming.
I love Zekreet. No noisy quads or radios. Quiet and peaceful. It looks over the body of water facing the Qatar mainland. I've camped there several times. I'm planning to go there for a few hours this Saturday morning.
Banana island shouldnt be a problem, but would you want to? Huwar island - if your going from Qatar then you'll end up in a Bahrain jail as they dont belong to Qatar.
My top five camping locations
1) Sharaiwah island - about 50 miles offshore very isolated, fantastic place.
2) Fuwarait beach - great for snorkelling etc.
3) Ras Rakkan island - possible to get to on foot for the hardcore people - or buy a lit fomr Al-Shammal harbour
4) Umm Tais - easier to get to than 3), land cruisers a slight possibility
5) Zekreet - becoming more popular - 3 years ago no real tents there.......

I was not smart enough to check the tide forecast before I went so I end up dragging/carring my kayak almost the whole way.
Hi
Can you tell me how to go to that place?
I'm so bored with my wife where, and the only place we know is Wakra beach (so Bad).
Thanks
Check mate.....

Yes, pitch a tent on the roof of your home. Don't forget to close and lock the front door :)

Cnidaria, was wondering where you park your auto overnight when camping at Ras Rakkan? and any problems leaving it unattended? Thanks
hmmmmm, need to visit more places than home. :)
where is umm tais??
Thanks Cnidaria. no problem crossing if there is enough water to float the kayak and camping gear.

You failed to pick up the sarcaism in my voice?
you need chemical toilets and AC etc to have the true camping feeling? yikes!! might as well stay home.
camping means getting away from it all - tent, sleeping bag and food - carried on your back for miles into the bush - ahhh, thats the life.
No bogs (if thats waht you mean by facilties etc. - reminds me of my old auntie)
Take a spade and ur own toilet paper :-)
As always lots of water and food.
Although sometimes the locals have installed chemicals toilets, sat TV, generators, AC to get the true camping feeling.
This is good information.
I suppose none of these places have 'services', correct?
Sad to hear about the finless sharks.
hi baedabok, are you going alone or with family? Can I join you?
I went there last Friday for a photo session. Its really a cool place.
Now that u put that list I wanna go to the other places that Cnidaria put here.
