Here is the map I mentioned earlier. I'm not sure if you can read Arabic, if not, let me know and I'll re-write the city names and milages in English.

The only critical point is when you reach Al Hafouf which is 130 kms from the Qatar Saudi Boarder, try not to go to Dammam since it will take you three hours extra drive. Try to follow the map where you have to get through Al Hafouf to Al Riyad Cross Road and then you will pass under Al Riyad-Al Dammam Express Way.

I would suggest purchasing a Garmin GPS along with the Middle east map and Europe map. You can use more than one route. You can go Rte 85 to Hofuf and then Rte 10 north to Damman and the 85 again all the way to Al quryat or Al Haditha and then cross into Jordan. You can also go through Sakaka and AL Jouf, or thru Riyadh and Tabouk. There are many options. Go to this site and use the middle east map http://www.us.map24.com
