How to transport a LED TV?
Hi fellow QLers,
I am flying to India this weekend and since it was a "last minute" decision to fly (strangley usual in my case), the only flight on which I could get a ticket was Air India Express.
Now, I bought a Samsung 40" LED tv yesterday (a gift for my parents in India. My only query and worry is about the safety and handling of the product till India. TO those who have taken LCD or LED televisions to India, is there any special packing that I must do? I have the original unopened product packing.
How do I go about it at the check in counter? Is there anything in partiular that I should mention to the check in counter staff to ensure that the tv reaches India safely and in one piece?
Looking forward to seeing your constructive suggestions and replies.
Thanks in advance.

The most important thing is to confirm with AI Xpress if they can take 40" LED in accompanied baggage. For most airlines ,TVs up 32" is fine but any thing above that ,they insist on sending by air cargo.Approach them with the dimensions of your package and weight for clarification.
I have taken an LCD TV to India without any problem. Two things to note:
1) As already mentioned in this Thread,it is very important to get the FRAGILE stickers at the time of Check in.
2)Your TV is delivered at a separate especially designated point on arrival. You can ask the Baggage Handling Staff there and they will guide you.Happy journey...
i know a friend who took an LED TV last month,
he did nto do any extra packing, but went with the original packing intact,,, and it was safe

Only 32 inches LED is duty free.40 inches will attract customs duty.u can put tapes outside original packing.
Thank you everyone for your valuable comments and wishes...take care...:)
no need any other packing for it. try to put baby blanket or small thermo col to avoid screen damage. gud luck and safe journey.....
I haven't taken any such items with me but I have seen lots of passengers taking LCD/LED TVs to India with them in its original packing.
The best way to take it is in its original packing. But to be doubly sure, its better to do the stretch wrapping available at the airport so that its handled safely till it reaches India. Also ask the airlines to put Fragile Sticker on all sides. Bon Voyage!
