Islands or nice Beaches...

Hi

I would like to visit an island (or, if that's not possible, at least a nice beach) when I visit Doha next month. Are there islands that are open to the public, with boat taxis or something? Or is chartering a boat the only option to get there?

Also, where are the nicest beaches close to Doha? Could not find answers with the Search function and I apologize if this question was asked 100000x before :(

btw, palm tree island is no longer open to the public. Some ejit decided to get rid of everything on it prior to the Asian Games and now it's just sat in the bay wasting away. I hope they stick a restaurant on it soon, it's a cracking location.

The Banana Island I'm talking about is nowhere near Pearl Qatar. It's out past the new airport development. I wasn't aware of any other island with the same name.

Safliya Island is right next to the Pearl. If you charter a boat there from the Diplomatic Club you get a nice view of the ongoing Pearl development.

You can pay to use most hotel beaches (and the pool), though not normally at the weekend.

Safliya island is very near Doha and is open to public. Banana island is further away and probably not worth the extra time/cost.

but then I still don't know which islands are accessible :(

I found that the Interconti Hotel has a nice beach...can you use this beach even if you are not in the hotel? Maybe for a little fee?
