Aasiya,

Soul cannot be added in to any new space. It’s slowly built up with the passage of time and the marks left from many many generations.

Qatar can buy almost everything but it can’t buy soul and apparently it is terrible in disguising it!

Be prepared for its dullness!

It was said truly in one of the comments that Qatar has all the money but no vision.the vision of shiekh mohammed of Dubai is wht we need to transform qatar to a place filled with life.dull lifeless lack of ambience lack od good malls play area for children no good parks the list goes on.I am shifting to Qatar from Dubai in sum time and I am all to apprehensive about settling in this dull lifeless country.keeping fingers crossed and hopin for the best

Its close to Doha Exhibition Center. Once u reach there its very easy to identify the place as u can spot big artificial sand dune sort of creation.

You can pay as much for PR and marketing but it will be no good if the place is NOT marketable. But it would help a little. They have to make the place more lively! All u can see at nite are people having coffee, it makes u feel bored more.

I liked the place as it is one nice open place in Doha where you can go when you don't want to be in a crowd...:)

First, the place is not officially open. Plus its main purpose is offices to various cultural related associations.in additional to hosting all cultural related events. it's pointless to visit with no activities. Unless, for the restaurants & cafes

So far, it's generating good reviews among the locals

the beach area is well organized , but it requires annual membership or a single entrance fee.

I found the food at Safron pretty bland..

It was expensive and more show than substance. But , to each his own ..

which apparently is the trend here. Can't compare with Dubai. It's as if you're not in the mideast when you're there. If there was link by rail to Dubai, it wouldn't be surprising if a few expats will be left here to spend their weekends.

But how come Qatar couldn't, or just wouldn't, hire those PR hot-shots doing a great job in Dubai. Obviously what they got here are faux. What seems to be the problem? Where does the money for PR go...?

For light they can use Lantern.... or Candles if the wind is low...

Since its mostly out doors it looks like a good place for Hooka... yanni Shisha

This outdoorsy thing is not a good idea here... where the weather thing is a big influence.... even on a winter eve if its windy or sandstormy... the out door restaurant would make no sense...

Its not always a good idea to copy paste everything Italian. Doha is not Venice... the weather is completely different.

Pros:

Nice buildings

Briliant landscape

Nice idea of having multicultural site

Cons:

Ego, as many other places

Not welcoming

Not considering variety of standards

About being alive this will come not expected to be overnight

Artificial, no character, no soul, empty, shallow, void and dull - welcome to Doha!

By hislam• 17 Feb 2011 07:35

It's very strange. Dubai does anything and the whole world starts talking how breath taking it is. Similar things are done somewhere else, Doha for instance, and everybody is criticising!!!!!!!!

Is it all about marketing and publicity?????

I've always wondered why are those marketing people overpaid but it seems to be much more technical than I thought.

Yes agree with britexpat ,deserted and they want QRA 100 per person to allow to access the beach . Maybe if they make it QAR 20 per person , there would be people atleast on that beach side at katara .

I was there two weeks ago and there are some shows/programs from locals. Its good to see them sing and dance.Had fun just walking around the place

But if there are no shows right now, It would be just plain like others said and too dark! You can have nice photoshoot during the day because ther are not much people and have ur weekend jog.

The place is the one they use for Tribecca Film Festival.

Agree with britexpat, the target audience for this enterprise were never been defined in the planning stage. At night, it is simply a dark place, and outside restaurant patrons have to use their mobile phones to be able to shed some light on the menu to be able to read it. What I was puzzled about, is how the heck they are going to eat whatever they ordered in that darkness. Perhaps this is one way for the chef to avoid complains if he cooked the wrong meal.

Thankyou. I have visited and found it to be bland, soulless and without any real ambiance. I would take Souq Waqqif any day - that should tell you much about it.

having been there before Christmas I can confirm that it is just as empty and pointless during the evening as it looks during the day in those pics.

We had a cup of tea at a cafe there and it was, no word of a lie, the worst cup of tea I have ever had in my life. We wandered between numerous empty buildings, looked on sadly at a perfectly formed beach that was closed to the public and guarded by more security guards than there were punters.

We searched in vain for some atmosphere but only found overpriced and silent restaurants. As with the Pearl, Qatar has all the money but no idea how to create a 'destination' with life and interest (unless all you want to do is drink coffee).
