Lebanon/Syria tourist visa

Think-Twice
By Think-Twice

Hi,

I would like to travel to Lebanon and/or Syria on vacation later this year. Does anyone know where and how I could apply for a tourist visa here? Is there any website/phone no. that I could surf/contact for details?

Thanx.

i neither would like to travel to Lebanon nor to Syria. I have heard so much about both of them! First i was listening about lebanon for about 4 years.. currently I am listening about Syria for almost 3 years...

I don't have to go there... i can start telling stories about these two myself now...

go to both, start with aleppo, check out the sites in aleppo (castle, souks, old city) and then head out and check out the surroundings of aleppo (st Simeon castle is a MUST SEE), then go to latakia and kick it on the beach (new beaches their now), then head out to palmyra and enjoy tone of the most historic city's on the face of this earth (roman, greek, persian, and muslim empire all passed through their), then head out to damascus, enjoy the night life their while also checking out the many historic sites the city holds, then take a 1.5 hour taxi ride and head out to beirut, party hard (dont listen to anyone, its as safe as you want it to be, especially for tourists), then head out to Baalbeck and check out the sites and the rich history, then go to Jeita Grotto and prepare to have your breath taken away, and if you have time head out for jordan and enjoy the many reserves they have, and head out to Jerash for some history and check out petra ( a word heritage site).....

i know i sound like a travel brochure, but its not a question of going to lebanon or syria, for a true experience you have to travel to both, and you if you are strained on time, get a good travel agent, and s/he will be able to fit all this in 7 days......

Kelly,

Do not worry, Lebanon is like Sri Lanka with Tamils. Even when there is unrest, tourists will not really notice.

Mostly unrest is centered in particular area's.

Lebanon...

Lebanon,

I have spend, in total, 2 months there.

Lebanese talk about Lebanon as if it is paradise on earth. Well, it is not. GREAT EXAGGERATION.

3 Days to a week will do there.

Must see

- Beirut Down Town (1 day)

- Farajah (in winter) (1 day)

- Byblos (1/2 day)

- Grotto's (boatride) (1/2 day)

- Jouneih (for a day on their crappy beaches)

- Sky View/ BO 18 (party party)

For the rest, Lebanon is nothing special. Syria is more interesting, but i'd really advice to include Jordan in the trip.

Oh yes... forget Tripoli - what a dump.

It took them close to 6 months to approve mine (US passport) and my ex-husband was working closely with the Syrian government. Even they could not seem to make things run more efficiently. By the time I got the visa the travel plans had already concluded.

I am one of the most cautious persons on earth. Even though, 3 of my invaluable assets are visiting Lebanon next month; wife, daughter and son.

DohaTiger,

The civil war has finished, no more war in Lebanon, and it's completely safe, I'm sure he is gonna have a great time in both Lebanon/Syria, people are lovely and open minded, basically those two countries are a real good exaple of the beautiful middle east that I heard about before I come here for the first time.

May all live in peace all the time.

that once the airport was closed absolutely unexpected... i remember that time perfectly.. i have my friends, lebanese family in Toronto.. in that summer they all went to Lebanon, one after another, as one of their brothers had to get engaged there... so some of the family members went earlier, other part went a week later and so on.. Ironically, when the last of their brothers was landing at the Beirut airport, the war started… this guy’s flight was the last one accepted by the airport, which was shut down right after his aircraft has landed! Did anyone expect it at that time?? This guy got his connection flight just few hours earlier, and no one knew that in 3-4 hours the airport will be shut down… so.. you never know.. so this family ended up by spending over a week to get out of Lebanon.. it was terrible.. we all were on the cell phones all the time, trying to reach them.. but at the beginning there was no any connection.. only when all family (14-15 people!) reached Syria, we were able to communicate normally..

For your information, civil war is not about to knock on the door of Lebanon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The airport is open, I don't believe that there are any plans to close it in the future. The Lebanese government is working hard to maintain peace in the country.

I am not Lebanese and i am in Lebanon, i feel very safe. The lebanese are wonderful, friendly and fun people.. Don't listen to negative comments posted here, listen to the news or phone your embassy for advice.

If you come here you are going to have a fantastic time, this is a party country and the people love to party. Someone lebanese is sure to take you under their wing and show you a great time!!!!!

i hope you enjoy your trip to Lebanon.

QS, looool,

That's a great a profile about the guy, hehehe, but you forgot to tell me his girlfriend's name, lol.

Yea, and even the nature, I saw some green mountains and valeies full of ancient historic places, I have seen some of them in a previous visit, but would love to see more.

I might ask you for your friend's number if I go there, he seems to be so interesting, especially that he is an archaeologist.

have a wonderful day.

QS, Absolutely the best Antique you can find is in Syria, you feel completely different when you walk in the Antique Souq of the old city of Damascus.

And if you like Julio Iglesias, his concert is on july 10th, at Bosra Amphitheatre (Southern Syria), I hope I can get a few days off then, will be in the first raw.

Enjoy.
