Riding public bus in Doha

Bin Tahir
By Bin Tahir

Exploring Doha by public bus:
1. We have to purchase Karwa smart card, only available at Old Ghanim bus Station with the cost QR30. QR3 per trip. W/o card you will be charged cash QR10, straight away for a trip.
In order to recharge the card, u can find in Old Ghanim only. Very inconvenient.
2. Inside the bus there is no designated seating like in Dubai. All gender can seat where they like. You need to tag the card in and out. All electronic. The bust stop only at designated bus stop only.
3. For choosing destinations, you may search in the internet or at the bus stop or station. Destination routes was arranged by bus number, mostly the ride will take 20 to 50 minutes with few stop point depends on you destination.

Overall! The buses' routes only available at most old Doha, If I am not mistaken, no public bus goes to new West bay, Pearl Qatar and other new ghost town destination in Doha. Peace!

Don't expect the ride in 5 star flight yah!
Have fun trying guys!

Dubai public transport system is light years ahead of what they have here. When I go to Dubai, I park my car at the metro station and can travel through the whole city by bus and metro.

here the thought alone makes me cringe.

I usually take the bus when my destination is on their route. The buses aren't maintained well. The seats are grimy/very dirty. And yes, that terrible smell, especially in the hot months. I tolerate all these because it is much cheaper than the taxi.

@the monk, are you sure you have a strong stomach? lol. It really stinks inside the bus especially when its full.

@bin tahir, the first few rows are supposed to be reserved for ladies and families. But many times, the men who ride on the bus don't seem to know anything about etiquette which means the driver has to tell them to give way for the lady.

During rush hour, there is also chaos because the passengers don't follow the queue (if ever there is one). This makes me real mad. Many times I got into an argument because a passenger would just cut the line and go in front. And they are the same nationalities. So I just thought maybe they don't fall in line in their own countries so I might as well forgive them. lol.

i never tried to ride in Karwa Bus though its much cheaper,my friends told me if you will ride the bus,be ready to be stared by some guys and u will experience some unpleasant smell from the passengers, well,i can ignore these but the thing is i hate being late to where my destination is so i took taxi as always but time will come taxi fares will be expensive.i hope the karwa management will consider to add some additional destination routes.
