It's only one week for me... Farang means long nose or what? ;-)

Flight's already booked, Doha, Bangkok, Koh Samui and same back...

Thai Kick Boxing sounds more like a bloody nose than a long white one ;-)

How long are you gonna stay there?

Paula 1 - This is in Lamai Beach. Second Popular beach after Chaweng. This is a Marriot group hotel. Don't miss the Thai Kick Boxing in Bear Bar cluster.

Be aware they call you Farang behind your back.

From Swanaboomi Airport you have to take Bangkok Airways to go there.

Hey Now you all brought all this up. Now I am itching go there. I have to wait till july for that ;(

Thanks so much Charan!!! It's the Renaissance Hotel... I really like to try all the street food, and thanks for the tips!!

What is the name of the hotel. I think it is in Chaweng beach. I never take hotel food there. tTere are all kind of restaurants and street food everywhere.

Rent a Suzuki Jimmy for BHT 900 (QR 90 a day). you can cover the whole islnd (island Ring road) in 45 minutes approx.

Don't miss the LadyBoy show in Chaweng Beach (Free. Just buy your own drinks) Hillareous.

Tell them you are a friend of Micheal from Singapore if you find some oldies there. They know me (That is the Name I use in Samui). You can get a discount on drinks.

Also go to the A-Go-Go Bar near the biggest Disco in samui (Chaweng beach). Say hello to May if she is still there. She is a friend of mine :)

...ehm, not too sure...hm, let me see...this is the address of the hotel:

208/1 Moo 4, T. Maret, Laem Nan Beach

Koh Samui , Thailand 84310

Does it help?

Which food is the most authentic one we gotta try? Are there any "street kitchens" or is it more like a tourist place without anything auhentic?

Just watch out for those girls saying: "I LOVE YOU FOR A VERY LONG TIME"!  You could visit the Thailand Tourist Information Center in Bangkok or you could book tours from the hotel. I did both and did enjoy my time over there. Hotels have real nice restaurants and clubs. Are more safe and more security than the ones downtown.  There is two faces of the coin in Thailand, The sex market and The travel and sightseeing market, which one you want to be part of?  I choose to travel a lot and sightseeing.    "Every once In a while, declare peace -- it confuses the hell out of your enemies." - Quark quotes a Rule of Acquisition, "The Homecoming"

Hey Thailand is over-rated, don't go unless you want a sex holiday. Try Malaysia esp Sabah for better beaches less people+good hotels+nature+culture. Lao for laid-back lifestyle and scenery. You can fly cheap with Air Asia from Bangkok.

Haha! We do the same skanky! Following many weekend breaks to Europe from the UK we became experts in "doing" a city in a couple of days.

One of the keys to doing this in Bangkok is transportation, as traffic on the roads can be bad. The monorail system is great for the areas it serves, and the river boats are also essential for getting around. TukTuks can nip through the traffic but make sure you agree a price beforehand and haggle like mad. They can see the tourists a mile off!

One thing that makes Bangkok ideal for lots of hardcore walking is the many many massages available everywhere. A quick 20min foot and leg massage is perfect for getting you going again.

Chef's smeffs, go and get some 30 cent Pho from a little street stall, it's awesome!

My friend and I went during CHinese New Year 3 years ago and a lot of the restaurants were closed, but we found this one super nice one (5 star) and had a 3 course meal with at least 6 cocktails for the price of a whopping 12$ American (all together) I love Vietnam.

Well that depends.. If you want to see everything, you can probably do it in 20 hours. But you will never be able to answer "How is Barcelona?" etc.

I went to Hanoi for 5 days and it was AMAZING, seeing Ho Chi Minh and his home were great!  and the shopping and food is to die for.  We took a trip up to Ha Loong Bay to, which is really beautiful and you get to see a lot of the country side on the way up.

I went to Thailand for 3 weeks at Christmas/New Year and visited a few different places, but if you only have 5 days then you'll probably only be able to do one place.

Bangkok is probably your best bet as I expect that's where you're flying to/from, and it has plenty to do for 5 days. The Lonely Planet has plenty of good suggestions of what to do, but I can give you more specific ideas if you want.

We also went to Chiang Mai in the north which is lovely. Still a city with lots to see in and around it, but it seems to have a far more chilled vibe than Bangkok.

If you fancy proper chilling then I'd recommend down south. We stayed on the Andaman coast at Khao Lak and Ko Lanta (north and south of Phuket respectively). Both had a nice relaxed atmosphere - not as manic as I'm led to believe Phuket is.
