Is there a Go-Kart track still in Dukhan
By MickAtHome •
Hi all
Back in the 1960's the was a Go-Kart track in Dukhan, built and maintained by QPC workers, as part of the Dukhan Motor Sport Club. It was used for local entertainment and to host races with visiting naval ships crews. Is it still there?

Yes you are correct - and here is a pic of that Bitumen track, plus a tarmac road which I think was Umm Said to Doha. Also included is a pic of the Clock Tower that had just been built the last time I was there. I bet the harbour line is more crowded now. Sorry about the quality of the pics as they are frames clipped from an old 8mm cine film.
Are there any sites around that show pictures of what Doha and the other major towns look like now? I have not been able to find anything other than the 'tourist' sites showing hotels and other tourist areas.
Thanks for you help
Mick
OOps - didn' manage to attach the pics to this post - they now appear as individual posts - which wasn't what I intended.
I saw the compound wall when I was over in Dukhan in 2004 playing golf. I'm not sure if it was installed to keep the heathen in or out. I have an aerial shot of the golf course from 1996 and pre compound wall that I must scan in and post. It seemed strange having to go through an on course gate between the third and fourth holes.
Qatar has changes such a lot since I arrived in 82. For MAH it will be much worse. In his day the Dukhan Road was little more than a bitumen track.
In the past year and half, Dukhan and Umm Said have changed a lot. There is a compound wall built around Dukhan city (when I went last, which is about 8 months back). The govt is renovating all these places and building it up.
If you want to identify any of the places you are looking for, which is way back in the 1960's you will need to find some one here who has been that long.
Good luck in your quest.
Dweller, you amaze me with your knowledge of Qatar past.

No, I'm afraid I don't. I was only a kid when I lived out there in the early 1960's. My father was one of the founding members but he died in 1965, so there is no-one to ask. The pictures in my original post were a couple of frames from old 8mm cine film. I will look closely at the rest of the cine and see if anymore surrounding scenery is shown and will post them here, in case someone can recognise the area.
Thanks
Mick
It certainly wasn't between 1982 and 2004. From the pictures it looks as though it was up past the jebel on the other side of Dukhan, possibly where the original nine holes of the golf course were.
Alternatively, it could be on the road to the beach club. Do you remember exactly where it was Mick?
