Things to do in Qatar

Hello there,

I'm a former Qatar resident and recently visited Qatar for a few weeks. I must say, the place has changed beyond recognition. I think Doha could be now ranked as a top ranked city and a major hub for businesses and development.

So what's the in thing in Qatar nowadays with regards to amusement? How do the locals (and expats) like to entertain themselves aside from shopping, movies and socialising? I didn't get to explore the place as much as I'd like to on my recent trip due to lack of time and Ramadan but would like suggestions so that I could make it a point to try more things out on my next visit.

there's only one way to do it, go and get piss drunk! that way you'll never notice the boredom.. :P

@tinkerbell10: Thanks for the update. From your comments, seems like little has changed amusement wise. And the parties do get boring at times if it's always the same people and it's done very often.

maybe we've gotten so used to doing the same things over and over again that it's become a bore now :-(

@Khattak: On a serious note, I do realize that the convenient days are more of an inconvenience to the bachelors who only have Fridays to hang out and relax. The word "convenience" was just a reply to SNM's "racist" comment, all in good humour though :D

Is is possible to get the concerned authorities to look into the issue and make amends to the malls' racist entrance laws???

I have been here about a decade and can tell the difference. It has changed a lot, but I'm only talking about the commercial part of it. The entertainment sector is still a sick unit.

With the exception of a few new hotels that have opened up bars/ clubs, there is nothing out there to look forward to over the weekends :-(

@Colt45: Lol, good idea. But it's not really required here in Canada. Or should I say that everyday is a convenient day in the malls here :)

buzz...the racist family days would've been a convenience for a family oriented man like me as well, if it was a complete 'family' day. And, think of the inconvenience of the poor labor (bachelors) sitting outside watching in desperation the so called elite 'bachelors' going into the malls without being questioned by the security staff...it certainly cant be a convenience to them.

why don't you promote some of those "convenient" days back home in Canada too then?

@drmana: That's exactly the reason why I started this topic. I wanted to get a closer peek from the eyes of the folks living there and seeing it all. :)

@Tinkerbell10: So the amusement department seems to be the same as it always was. Hmmm, wish they'd work on that.

buzz, Qatar is not just the skyline in Corniche....

Also, get a closer look...most of them are empty.

@ drmana: the skyline at the Corniche doesn't really seem half finished. Atleast not to someone who's last memory of the sealine was just the sea and the Cornich parking lot.

@somwerNdmiddle: As for the racist family days at the malls, we ladies like to call it convenience :)

for amusement, ex-pats LEAVE Qatar. This is the worst country in the world for anything related to amusement and fun.

Wow!!! Seems like Qatar's recent development hasn't impressed many of its residents. Well I'm sure you guys have good reason not to be very excited about it since you actually live there. So tell me, what's with all the "no excitement at all" reactions? What's life in Qatar really like currently?

And apart from shopping, movies and socialising, you can explore the desert or visit the nearest other country for amusement.

@tinkerbell: So are you saying that there's nothing really exciting to do in Qatar these days? No sports, new stuff to learn etc.?

@somwerNdmidle: That was my opinion dude. A high ranking in development of infrastructure. What do you think?

buzz, I think empty half finished infrastructure doesn't count to be ranked as a major business hub.
