ictQATAR and the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning have made three parks in Doha completely wireless.
The service is free and is expected to expand to two other parks in Doha by April 2011: Corniche Al-Khur and Al-Wakrah.
Hi everyone,
As part of our promise to help connect people to one another and to the world, ictQATAR and the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning have made three parks in Doha completely wireless.
Anyone visiting one of these lovely parks - Sheraton, Rumailah and Dahl Al Hamam - can send e-mail, shop online, surf the internet or chat at no cost.
The iParks program is expanding to two more parks—the Corniche Al-Khur and Al-Wakrah, with a planned completion date of April 2011.
At this time of weather, you can go to Coffee Shops that has wireless internet rather than going to the park. Costa Coffees and other coffee shops near Ramada signals offer free wifi connection.
If you still wanted to go to the park, you can try corniche- Sheraton hotel area since I tried there is a good connections there.
Cheers!!!
very good idea
Since doha's a small city they should have city wide wireless even if they charge for it
Read my profile re sarcasm ;o)
Now, if Qtel want to go and set up a wifi hotspot in the industrial area as a humanitarian deed they'd win over a lot more doubters than a family park in the desert in the middle of winter!
Its a gr8 idea, and Al Bida park is doing just about that since a long time. Whenever you need a break from office or home... its always nice to carry ur personal lappy and head straight down 2 Bida park for some fresh air and surfing the net ending it all with a flask of hot coffee.
Baldrick2dogs, Gosh... u sure sound funny at times, 'poor labours' can bring along their lappy and surf the net for free... hehehe, hwo do u purpose that these labours buy a lappy in the first place when they earn like Qar 400/- a month of which Qar 150/- is given for their food bills and another Qar 150/- goes out for their monthly personal expenses.
WIfY is available on selected places by the QTEL recently they launched at Souq Waqif (Irani Market). Take your Laptop/mobile and enjoy food/coffee...

if you want new surroundings while surfing the net, why not. But if you want fast and clear connection, stay at home...
I think it's a great idea. All those poor labourers that can't afford their own connection can take their laptops to the park and connect for free!
ya its true....evn u will find wi-fi at corniche too...speed is fair enof...& the thought to go there for net is gud but looking to the nice sunny wheather i will opt to stay at home...
the idea is good ,, and ya it works
when i take my family on weekends at the al bida park i carry my laptop along so when children are busy playing u can browse through
but ya it is not fast as at home specially if u use adsl at home
and also sometimes u might have connection errors otherwise it is good and works well
nice tp
