Hi there, I'll be relocating there soon, and just wondered, what are the usual places for ex pats to holiday?? Are there such things as cheap flights there as there are in UK?
Flights are expensive so you are left with some limited places to like o beach, malls, crowded almost conservative night clubs (lol) and coffee shops...
loadsa places to go like dubai, bahrain, oman, india, nepal, srilanka, egypt, lebanon, iran, jordan...... + the east. every destination is different unlike the europe. you may find flights like airarabia, jazeera, airindiaexpress and bahrain air for cheapest fair.
QR offers outstanding service aboard so it 'll cost u more. many airlines in the region offer holiday packages too.
Just got back from the Maldives last month. Check with the travel agents because they run specials sometimes. Other than that...no on the cheap flights like they have in the UK and the US. Monopolies take that away from the consumers.
hi i am an uk expat like u....there are no cheap flights like go, ryan-air or easy jet...qatar airways monopolises everything....there fares are not that cheap...i am actally planning some holidays and i was shocked atteh prices...usually i go to europe but u will want to watch the busy season...

planning a holiday won't be a big deal here.
Roaming around Doha as follow (% of time to spend):
50% on traffic jam
20% waiting on red signals
20% trying to follow road speed limit and trying to avoid fixed radars.
10% enjoying the PICNIC day
